My new Duke Nukem model ;o
Hello, some months ago i posted my Duke Nukem model here. I wasn't really happy with the way it turned out and decided to start over.
This time i made a high poly version in Mudbox for normal map purposes. The low poly model was made in Blender.
It's 4262 triangles as you can see on the picture and uses 3 1024x1024 textures(diffuse, normal and specular that is)

Crits and comments are welcome.

The old one looked better. Of course I'm talking about the skin which is still far from being done so I expect some great improvement shortly. There's no way to compare the meshes.

How do you like Blender, me, the damn thing is too complex for me. I use Milkshape3D because well. I guess I'm just not as smart as most people because I can't learn Blender. lol. My brother made some really kickass stuff in Blender though he was like a Demon. Modelled his own head from a photo that was eerie. lol.

Anyway, MudBox yeah, that's the stuff. Autodesk, my younger bro, he likes Autodesk's products a lot. I've never used them again, but he had to because he had all those engineering classes and whatnot and had to use CAD and stuff like that.

That's really convenient that you can edit the normal maps within the program because well doing them yourself is no fun and I just love how Dot3 can make your models look fantastical just from normal mapping.

This super soldier here can illustrate:

Keep it up, because I love seeing models progress mostly because I'm a programmer so I'm not quite as good lol.

Thanks for the comments and crits.
XTHX2: Well, this is a normal mapped character and HRP has no support for normal maps, and i think the polycount and texture size (1024x1024) is a bit to large also.

Spiker: I hope i can make this model look less worse then my old one

Jinroh: Blender is really easy to use to me,and it has ALOT more functions then milkshape. IIRC you can't even select verts or poly's in perspective view in ms3d ;o.
And Mudbox is indeed fun

Here's a small update and a wireframe for those who are interessted
Still much work to do.

Yes, I am one of those people who cannot, at least not very well. Digging through my archives I found a Chest (Human Torso) that I modeled around 2005. So maybe I'll see if I can turn it into something.

lol can you post it here? It may come in handy for people. (People who are in need of some smile or even laugh ^_^)

Hmm also, since this can't be used in game, what are we going to do with this model anyway? Can it be used at anywhere or is this just a showcase, not intended for people to use when finished?

We could always throw it in an engine and make a cool Machinima of Duke Doing some Stuff. Like Grocery Shopping or playing Jacks.

Anyway for those who need teh funnies today and are haveing a case of the Mondays on Friday here's an Epic Fail Model. Though I don't think it's really that bad. lol.

Apparently Milkshape3D put a rectangle in my screenshot. I'll have to get some better ones later.

Hmm just noticed something with your model movento. Duke's eyebrowns have a feeling that Duke is too old. Did anyone get that also? It looks funny the way it is now. (I know it's because it's not textured...)

Easy to start hard to master.

It all depends on how good you are at art, which modelling tool you use and if you're shooting for high or low poly models. If you have good reference pictures, even somebody like me can do it.

@Spiker, thanks bro I knew you still were pulling for me.

You two like to talk to eachother a lot, but please realize you're hijacking Movento's thread...

Movento, I think you need to practice a bit more on proportions, right now he's a little "fat". His waist should be narrower to give emphasis to his big chest and strong legs. Did you make a drawing to base it on that? If not, you should. It's the way pros do it and it's not bad to use reference. People do it all the time.

XTHX2: about the eyebrows,in the end the shape won't look like that ,i'm going to use an alpha map for that. It could be used in a game engine, but i'm a noob and the only game engine i can export models to without much problems is hl1

timothy2: I used some refs of bodybuilders and some DNF refs too.

You should, IMO, make hime less width. I've uploaded a comparison.

I think bodybuilders are NOT good reference for Duke Nukem. Specially the most built as their waists are too damn big thus they don't have much symmetry.

I'd have to agree with the comparison pic The Stinger uploaded. Duke just needs to be a bit thinner. Apart from that it's getting better.

I wade him less wide, although it's hard to see from this angle. Today i saw that awesome Duke Nukem statue that's posted here on the forum and decided to use it as reference for the muscles. Here's a picture from the high poly version

And here's how it looks on the low poly version.I'm having some glitches that i don't know how to fix.I also added an alpha plane to make the hair look better. Not sure what to think about it.

Yeah that's an untextured part.

It's really looking awesome, good job.

Though I have a few problem with how his face looks, but I geuss if you are using the porcelain statue as a reference you'll see what I mean.

Re: My new Duke Nukem model ;o
Your Duke is looking cool.

input..
Face needs the crooked lower lip sly Stallone style and you should shop around for a better texture for his jeans. The texture you are using seems to big of a pattern.

other then that he is looking good.
