DRM free. If they did that they would only be welcoming piracy.

That logic is flawed... building an international online distribution system, among other things, has to deal with copyright laws, and I figure it will be more difficult to obtain worldwide rights than only for US, where presumably the biggest market is. Apart from that there are different ratings, different payment systems and whatnot. A lot of things to consider when you do it worldwide, a lot easier for just one country.

*Technically* they shouldn't have a problem with selling it to the same countries it was originally released in. If a country banned it, well thats their problem.

However my point stands - either they go the whole nine yards or they will unfortunately just have their games pirated.

Well, you only responded to the ratings issue. And what the guy in the interview said about piracy felt a bit blue-eyed. We'll see about that, I'd certainly prefer if they'd distribute worldwide, it is just that he didn't say anything about it.

Also, i saw some comments about it possibly using DosBox.

No offense to Qbix or anyone else, but I would rather have them run as they were.

If they are going to actually reprogram the games to run on modern stuff, I would expect there to be no need for DosBox.

Regardless, if that was the only way to play the games, I'd have to settle for it.

I'd just like it to be dumbed down for me, so i don't have to configure anything just to play each game.

edit: Although, look at new games now. It's quite common for you to require an immediate patch or beta video driver just to get it to run on your machine, so i really don't know why i'm griping about it.

To what extent will games be re-coded to work with XP and Vista? Or will you just not carry a game if it requires a lot of work on that front? I can’t help but think of Terror From The Deep on Steam, where the official line is that the time and cost and making it play nice with Vista was deemed not worth it….

AO: We don’t have access to the games’ source code, so we can’t really re-code them. We work hard to make sure all the games run on Windows XP and Vista – that’s both 32-bit and 64-bit systems – and we try to optimize them at the installation stage so that the game install works for each user configuration. If we happen on a game that doesn’t work, we’ll see what we can do; I hope that we never have to make that decision. All of the games we have right now work on our test systems

Afaik the beta will consist of one free game that everyone can download, so thei're more like testing their homepage, account and download system than the payment system.

According to the shacknews article they aren't sure yet about giving away a free game.

It surely is, but I'm too lazy to bother with 3rd party softwares to run a game (especially if it's not abondonware and I paid for it), even though the difference is just a few more clicks.

MAT, if they package the games in any way like Steam does with classics like DOOM, you'll pretty much be set without any additional "tweaking", though there are always exceptions I guess I should point out. Seriously man, don't just dismiss the idea...

I don't understand this at all. What difference does it make if it runs natively with random bugs introduced by a new patch versus just being emulated perfectly in dosbox? Honestly? You won't even know dosbox is there unless you go tweaking.

Seems like splitting hairs to me.

I did get the former email that people here where talking about. But I haven't got an email yet. But maybe "yet" is the key there the day isn't over yet and their website even says:
