Re: Good Old Games
I wonder if this US only? CD Projekt are polish, but that doesn't mean a thing. There was nothing in the interview, and I don't want to read all the comments...

Re: Good Old Games
Sweet idea, is there a list of games somewhere that I'm not seeing?
I would kill to play Quarantine 1 & 2 on XP.

Re: Good Old Games
That logic is flawed... building an international online distribution system, among other things, has to deal with copyright laws, and I figure it will be more difficult to obtain worldwide rights than only for US, where presumably the biggest market is. Apart from that there are different ratings, different payment systems and whatnot. A lot of things to consider when you do it worldwide, a lot easier for just one country.

However my point stands - either they go the whole nine yards or they will unfortunately just have their games pirated. |

Re: Good Old Games
Well, you only responded to the ratings issue. And what the guy in the interview said about piracy felt a bit blue-eyed. We'll see about that, I'd certainly prefer if they'd distribute worldwide, it is just that he didn't say anything about it.

Re: Good Old Games
Also, i saw some comments about it possibly using DosBox.
No offense to Qbix or anyone else, but I would rather have them run as they were. If they are going to actually reprogram the games to run on modern stuff, I would expect there to be no need for DosBox. Regardless, if that was the only way to play the games, I'd have to settle for it. I'd just like it to be dumbed down for me, so i don't have to configure anything just to play each game. edit: Although, look at new games now. It's quite common for you to require an immediate patch or beta video driver just to get it to run on your machine, so i really don't know why i'm griping about it.

It sounds like a good idea, providing they can pull it off of course. We'll have to wait and see it seems.

Re: Good Old Games
I'm kind of confused though - if we get early access does that mean we just try out their website or will they take orders? Seems a little crazy to be spending money on a beta website.

Re: Good Old Games
Afaik the beta will consist of one free game that everyone can download, so thei're more like testing their homepage, account and download system than the payment system.

Re: Good Old Games
Sounds cool, but I'll buy from them only if they manage to make those games work on XP without DosBox.

I wouldn't count on it if they don't have access to the source code.

Re: Good Old Games
It surely is, but I'm too lazy to bother with 3rd party softwares to run a game (especially if it's not abondonware and I paid for it), even though the difference is just a few more clicks.

Re: Good Old Games
MAT, if they package the games in any way like Steam does with classics like DOOM, you'll pretty much be set without any additional "tweaking", though there are always exceptions I guess I should point out. Seriously man, don't just dismiss the idea...

Definitely supporting this.
Edit: They have at least 3-4 games there I would definitely want. Never got to finish Freespace 2.

Re: Good Old Games
I thought this thread was about old game recommendations and I finally clicked on it today. This sounds really, really cool. I hope they get some support from the big publishers. This is almost like community service for the gaming community.

I'd be glad if it works that way. I've no experience with Dosbox.
