Duke Nukem 3D Xbox LIVE Arcade Interview
As we announced last week, Duke Nukem 3D is coming for Xbox LIVE Arcade. We're here to tell you today of a link you will want to read. The gaming news site "Team Xbox" has an interview up with 3D Realms' George Broussard.

George goes into quite a few of the really cool new details on the game, including the user clip system, the rewind feature, and much more... You can read the complete interview here, but here are some quotes for you to check out first...

Q: What do you get with eight-player co-op?

A: What’s better than drinking beer on a Saturday afternoon and playing co-op shooters with your buddies? Simple as that. The old game supported it and we’re really excited to open it up over Xbox Live and the Internet for the first time (versus playing on a LAN).

Q: Unlike many “classic” games brought to XBLA, you did a lot to freshen up Duke 3D and take advantage of the Xbox 360’s capabilities. How did the hardware and some re-coding time enable you to buff up your hero’s world?

A: We definitely put a lot of work into the game. It would have been simple to just port it and ship it, but people kept suggesting cool ideas and we just had to do them. Some of it was hardware, as in being Xbox Live, you open the game up to really solid matchmaking, voice chat and multiplayer.

There is an awful lot more you are going to want to see - go check out the full interview over at teamxbox.com right now!

We also wanted to release this screen capture which shows the rewind feature in action...

I'm guessing that there is no true wide screen then? That screen has me thinking there is not any.

from the screen shot it looks like it won't be full a 16:9 screen, there will be borders like doom

Doom was 800, I really think that D3D is going to be 800, which is going to rock pretty much.

it isn't valuable in an artistic point of view, but you have to admit it's catchy. And I couldn't think of any other song that fits the situation more right now.
Sorry Joe

Great interview. I can't wait to get this on my 360. It seems weird saying that, I own three copies of Duk3D for my PC... yet I'm still excited to get it and play it on my 360.

Sweet! Now I don't have to stop every few minutes to save. Sometimes when I get really into the game, I forget to save and I would get frustrated when I die and had to redo the whole level again.

Yeah I owned the n64, playstation, and pc version. I would love to buy this on xbox 360 and go through it again. Now that you can play co-op up to 8 players, this is a definite purchase.

That doesn't mean it has no purpose. If you quit the game for the night or something, you'll want to save then. You just don't have to save constantly like you used to do in the old days.

Because 3DRealms doesn't own that high def version, and them putting it up could mean a bunch of lawsuits.

oh, i assumed they did, since to be able to use the high def version, it required one of the files for the original duke 3d so the person downloading it was a genuine owner of the game

That's just the HRP creators respecting the legality of the game, since including the original file that is required, would be pirating it...

3DR owns the original art and the IP of the HRP which is based on the original art but made by members of this community. The community agreed (with the compliance of members of 3DR, I think Joe chimed in or something) on a license which can be viewed here.

I doubt there would be lawsuits though. . .the whole issue of who "owns" the HRP is something for GNU Lawyers to bicker about (3DR owns the resemblances etc, but not the art?) but I don't care so much and it is not a topic for here.
The interview is cool, If only I had a 360 . . . someone want to buy me one?

That got me thinking; does the time-line get saved when you save the game? Can you save the game, sleep for the night and come back and still have the same death time-line as you did before the night?

I understand you can upload the timelines (though it isn't clear to me where exactly), which would mean you can save them locally as well, maybe not automatically, but at least if you tell the game to save it.
At least, I'd be surprised if that wasn't possible.

Like most games over live, it will upload your score\time trial time automatically if you have your 360 hooked up to the net.

It maybe different for duke3d, however.

Both a score and a time trial time are small numbers.
If that is really all there is to it, just a few bytes, plus the Gamertag, and maybe date or something like that, also small.
A timeline would be significantly larger, I expect around the same size as a DN3D Original demo.
I know Bungie has a server(s) for recorded Halo 3 screenshots and demos, which might indicate MS doesn't do anything like that.
I think that's right, never heard about MS hosting game-stuff like that, but who knows?
Seriously... who knows?
