Prey and Bioshock similarities
As i was playing bioshock i thought that the game had a very similar feeling with prey, with the exception of the actual story and the location:

1)They are both horror FPS
2)In the introduction something horrible happens that leaves you trapped in a extremely hostile (unearthly??) enviroment from which you want to escape
3) Plane crashes! (....anyone?? ). (also the plane wrecks appear again later in both games)
4) Wrench as a melee weapon (although imo bioshock's wrench has a much much more better graphics, animation and general feeling as a weapon)
5) Wicked little girls that laugh and you have to beat the s@#it out of them.
6) Claustrophobic enviroments with non-rectangular corridors. Both games make you want to scream :"I want to breathe fresh air please!!!! " or "I want to see a normal house or a forest !"

and...some more that i can't remember right now...

aaaa i remembered one more
7)They are both from very creative developers who truly love games.

What do you think?

1) They are both FPS (that would be qualified as horror).
2) You were forced into the environment in PREY, you swam to it in BioShock.
3) A plane could be used in different ways, there is little similarity between games.
4) A wrench is a common first weapon (System Shock, Opposing Force, BioShock, Prey, and many other games that I have not played) The wrench in BioShock was most likely taken from SYSTEM SHOCK 2!!!
5) In BioShock, you had the choice not to hurt the little sisters. In PREY, you have to kill the spirits in order to advance in two parts of the game, and they are spirits (that don't like you from the start since you've tried to attack them in death walk, by the way)
6) This effect is done in a lot of games, and personally, I don't think I really feel any claustrophobia since I don't imagine that I'm in the game.

My verdict: They're both first person shooters, and that's the only one you got right.

8) The developers of both games need to eat to stay alive.
9) Most of them go to the bathroom sometime after eating.

The both use non-standard revive methods, both of which are better than the standard "start at your last save point" IMO.

It seems that you took my post very seriously..I said IMO it had the same feeling. That didn't happen by playing Half life 2 for example.
And i tried to explain that feeling by searching for similarities. Also I never implied a ripoff or inspiration in anyway.

1) DNF,Halo,Call of Duty and many many more are not horror FPS.They can be very scary, they do have violence and blood but horror is another thing.
2)Did you have another real option in Bioshock?? I said "it leaves you trapped...".
3) Yep,name another fps that the airplane crashes in the beginning and you see the wreck later in the game.
4) I agreed with you on this one. Bad example as a strong similarity.
5)Why do you analyze this so much? They are still evil little girls that are your enemies. They reminded me of prey a lot.Fear had also a wicked girl but it did not produce the same feelings as the girls in prey and bioshock.
6) Yes i agree, but the odd thing is that even though many games have claustrophobic rooms (like doom, quake), i never felt the need of fresh air like in Prey and bioshock. If you search the posts in the prey forum you will find similar opinions about the prey enviroment.

Lastly don't say that my thread sucks....it makes me sad

Actually, the plane crash sequence was too quick for me. Wasn't suspenseful enough. Could have dragged a little longer to build up suspense. Otherwise, it actually reminds me of LOST. The plane went down at night, the dark waters, plane debris and fire... it just made me feel like I was a character from Lost.

The plane crash sequence in BioShock had to be short, otherwise it would've spoiled to much about the story.
