Animated Series
I was just thinking - wouldn't it be nice to see Duke Nukem in either an animated series, a comic book, or in a movie?
I definately think that Commander Keen could make a cool cartoon, if executed correctly. It would have to have intelligence to it, like the old Animated Batman series before it got combined with that Superman one and got new writers and animators (now it sucks). Duke Nukem would be cool with that anime feel, like the Ghost in the Shell or Akira, that sort of look and feel, but with a slightly more American comic-book character design (Duke would look wierd as an Anime character, don'cha think?) Has anyone at Apogee/3DR considered doing something like this? (with Duke I mean) |

Re: Animated Series
Ah Joe, 3DR has.
Scott Miller told us in the TV section when someone brought up that in a press release 3DR mentioned a possible TV series. He revealed that they were thinking about doing an animated talk show. He said they're still kicking the idea around, but nothing is for sure. Anyways, Spawn's animated series on HBO is excellent, and is called an 'American Anime.' I think it's a prefect style, and a perfect station. HBO, ShowTime, Cinemax, whatever. We need a station that will allow swearing, nudity and everything duke. That was Clerk's mistake, going to a public station. Duke will be DOA if they stick him on a station like that. Also, there is a Duke Nukem movie in the works. From what I know, no script has been approved. Like DOOM and the Resident Evil movie. It's gonna happen, once it get's a "good" script. Although I question what that will be. You'll be happy to know that the Tomb Raider movie is currently in production though. There is nothing about a Commander Keen TV show, but John Carmack is thinking about porting all the classic Keens to the Nintento GameBoy. You'll have to e-mail him and tell him you're very interested, and help keep the idea fresh in his mind. About the comic book, a DOOM, Resident Evil, Tomb Radier and Final Fantasy comics have been made, it's not impossible for a Duke comic. ------------------ X-human.net, GZNews, EdgeGaming.com, 3D Realms Bulletin Board Fan Site Chick of the Week (Anna Kournikova), Dopefish Cult, BJ's Hideout and Black Death "Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. Re: Animated Series
I have two things to say about that.
1) I'm human - I don't remember every single word said by everyone. 2) Don't take every off the cuff comment by us as meaning "it's the gospel truth". Just because someone was mentioned once by someone doesn't mean it's a serious thought. Believe me - I've learned that the hard way after working here almost 8 years. ------------------ Joe Siegler - Webmaster, 3D Realms --- Got a Duke Nukem Forever Question? Re: Animated Series
If there was a Keen cartoon it would HAVE to be storyboarded and not scripted

Re: Animated Series
OK, I'll copy n paste this for the millionth time
![]() <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR> There is a massive difference. The original way of creating cartoons was to go straight to storyboards and not have a script. The result is a more fluid, less stilted, and funnier cartoon made by CARTOONISTS instead of writers. In the 60s and 70s, the cartoons were taken away from cartoonists and given to writers, who created some of the biggest loads of buLLuks ever. In 1991, an attempt was made to bring back the classic style. Anyone remember Ren & Stimpy? The first 32 episodes? The storyboarded ones, before the creator, John Kricfalusi was fired? Basically the first cartoon since the 60s that was storyboarded, and look how much better it is than crap like FAMILY GUY and the GUMMEE BEARS. Cow & Chicken, Rocko's Modern Life are also storyboarded, and see how much better they are? Check out Spumco.com for some REAL cartoons. They are just better, funnier, cleverer, and KINDER TO THE CARTOONISTS. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> To sum it all up, if the cartoon is storyboarded first, the cartoonist can show what it is meant to look like on the storyboard, instead of having to describe it in words, which could be interpreted the wrong way when the cartoon is sent away to Korea or anywhere to be animated. If you see a cartoon where the background never moves or reacts to whats happening to the main characters, or where characters are wailing and smiling at the same time, now you know why.
