In my personal option ROTT would work great as a x-box live arcade game due to the fact it's bonus system could be easily adapted in to x-box live achievements. Heck the remake could use "games for windows live" for multiplayer and keep the bonus structure alive as achevements and allow xbox360 players to join pc game servers through xbox live.

it would be rad if they got all the dudes who did the acting for the original (Joe, etc) and re-did the costumes and props, adnd made a high-res sprite based game.

unlikely to do a sprite based game but it would be cool to have the old 3dr team get scanned in as 3d models for cult members.

Man i hope this will be a full HD shooter experience and not either an official iphone port or a handheld like DNT will be.

I tend to agree... as far as fun and playability, ROTT on a handheld would be superior to Prey, and I shouldn't complain, they are both epic.

Apogee Software and Mobila Interactive announces the classic first person shooter Rise of the Triad will soon be available on the App Store for all iphones, itouches, and ipads. Check out the game play video on youtube:

if this is the announcement my boner has gone down quite considerably. But considering that the last twitter message said that it was the first in a long list of announcements so maybe that new ROTT game will come soon as well.

Lastly one serious question. Wouldnt an iPhone version of the original game be a port not a reboot?. I thought a reboot was the same plot as the original game but just using new and updated technologies. e.g. Doom 3

Isn't a reboot, like in the Marvel Universe, telling the story again with "what if"s thrown in?

The iPhone game talked about today is a port of the original.

I knew it was a port but all i wanted is conformation before i started to sprout off but yes i am dissapointed that the first announcement was for the iPhone version but its still nice that some company is still be doing something with ROTT considering its age.

I have still got my fingers crossed for a HD shooter (or at least portable version) under the ROTT name and i will still be optimistic as it said this is the first in a long list of announcements.

the press release seems to not have very original content even putting the same bullet points that are on the classic game page. also from the video link showing the current build the controls are based on the dn 3d analog controls and not wolfenstine 3d's digital controls hopefully this will be fixed by RTM.

For anyone who cares ROTT has just hit the app store. Its $5.99 in Australia.
Im getting an iPhone sometime next week so i might pick this up just to see what its like.

Its not a bad price considering Doom classic is $8.99 but more then DN3D which is $1.99.

Sorry i dont know what the prices are in America or anywhere else in the world.

the official site for the iphone port it is gpl and built with the linux port of the game. i do not have an ipod touch to play it on but it looks like they did not go beyond the alpha controls to much i hate having an analog control on a touch pad it should have been a digital pad. This port seems to look like a quick port without learning from both the wolfenstine and doom classic ports. it looks like the beta test will cost $ 4.99 US to enter.

So ROTT roboot won't be a computer game, just a post for the Iphone?

If ROTT won't be a new computer game, I'll be disappointed.

Because I'm expecting the new ROTT to be for PC with improved graphic, engine and with new things.

ROTT is for PC!!!

Re: ROTT remake coming (WID)
If I could have just one wish regarding a new ROTT game (I mean a proper one not some port), it would be that it takes itself quite seriously. I mean yes the original Rise of the Triad was filled to the brim with crazy, amusing and unrealitic things but for all that it was still possible to be immersed and take the battle seriously. With modern technology it would be easy for them to go all out and make the game "wacky" which I really pray doesn't happen. It should have all kinds of cool and even unrealistic features, but it should also be an immersive gaming experience in its own right and not some joke game. Tongue in cheek, good, Jim Carrey, bad.

EDIT: My avatar is a sample of the "seriousness" that was present to a degree in the original ROTT. The music of the game is another, it's fantastic and really dark at times.

Rise of the Triad - Retro Remake

The iphone version was only a port, and not the retro remake that had been leaked out. All I can say is a serious effort is being made to move forward on the retro remake project and a developer has already started prototyping.
All this sounds promising.

It depends if they are the ones developing ROTT, Frontline Studios were the developers of Duke Nukem: Critical Mass, Apogee were only the publishers.

But it is also a worry of mine, DN:CM doesnt seem all that good quality for a DS game.

edit*** thanks Kristian Joensen for pointing it out that its Frontline Studios that developed DN: CM and not Deep Silver.

What game technology/engine would this be based off of? Not sure if that was discussed already, but I'm pretty sure it would have to be something a lot newer than a modified Wolf 3D engine, I can tell you that.

I know that there are plenty of modern game engines that are being released for mobile platforms, like UDK, Unity, I assume id Tech 5 is already on there, supposedly, perhaps CryEngine 3 might be making it mobile sooner than later, but who knows?
