I can't comply with this request for several reasons:

1) The game is clearly still being worked on

2) Being unrealistically and stubbornly negative for no reason will not help

3) I still desperately want and need DNF

1) Proof... Although Scott Miller said they were still developing DNF, without a dev team, its kind of hard to believe anything 3DR says anymore.

2) its hard to be positive after some fans have actually been waiting for 12 years for so far nothing.

Since the internal layoffs, they've made some money, and in their press release, they did mention continuing to work with external developers. All the evidence is that they're currently working with external help to finish the game.

Fact is 3dr/apogee are on the death bed hoping to squeeze a twee bit of life out of the trilogy games that kick off this year, apparently. Do you realize the amount of stress that was lifted of g and s after dnf got canned? they dont have to worry about it anymore and they can lay the blame on t2, but as you can see the majority aint buying that crap and we balme 3dr/apogee for being just like you, too hyped on the buzz that duke is indestructible. when will you pull your head out?

g and s could of squeezed 5 mil from their personal assets to finish dnf but instead they approached t2 for it and when t2 declined they shut down the shop, they had someone else to blame for their failure of dnf...thats all they needed to can the whole project, a scapegoat. If they really wanted to finish it they could of pulled it off. the most probable truth is that 5 mil was not enough to finish it and they were really after a scapegoat to take the hit. g and s were quick to fire everyone and close it down without even considering selling off their personal assets. dnf was killed with a self inflicting wound after they realized they did not have the ground breaking content that the communitie was expecting. did you see any interactivity at all in any of the leaked footage? they did not have a revolutionary game, they had a mediocre half finished game and they killed it before it was exposed.

Everyone who has seen the game has been extremely impressed, and has confirmed that the media that we've seen doesn't show the game the way it really is. The media has had things removed, etc. Jace Hall recently stated in an interview that when he saw the game in late 2007, it was taking in-game interactivity to new heights, so it's obvious that we just haven't seen the interactivity yet, but it's there.

If (and this is a BIG "if") DNF is ever released, you guys will have to thank T2 for it. If the release ever happens it will be due to the fact that 3dr was forced to outsource to another company that is competent with game development.

It's pretty clear that they can't make up their mind what they want, so even outsourcing might not work. If 3DR is still calling the shots, what's to stop them from doing the same crap to an external developer that they did internally? Best to let it go, I think.

This is one of those head versus heart scenarios, only the head is sitting on the fence.

Logically, DNF's fate could be optimistic or pessimistic (though I think by now logically DNF has a slightly better chance of having an optimistic future). But my heart tells me that DNF will see the light of day, and it will be glorious.

My head told me that Obama had a so-so chance against figures like Hillary and McCain, but my heart knew that he was going to win.

I'm strange in that I view this saga as a blessing in disguise. If (when) DNF comes out in whatever form in whatever compromised way, it will be one hell of a story. The fact that this is up in the air, like the impending ending to a tense movie or novel, makes it so exciting.

I will resign myself to the possibility that DNF will be graphically inferior by the time it comes out. But what made the original Duke 3D so successful was the style and gameplay, which has aged very well. If DNF retains the gameplay they started on back in 1997, but in an inferior engine, it could still be a success in addition to being a great game.

It was basically aimed at just this thread.

I'm a huge fan of DN3D and various other Duke games. And was one of the ones who believed in DNF and was waiting for the day I could play it myself.

And while it is upsetting and sad... shit happens. 3DR is closed as a development studio, DNF's future is uncertain at this point but chances are we won't be seeing it anytime soon.
It's okay (I guess) to still hold onto hope that one magical day when all is right with the world that DNF will descend from the heavens and we can all bask in it's glory.

But honestly, as much as it may have pissed me off... and made me sad... I signed off on ever getting to play DNF last year shortly after the studio closed in May.
The only Duke game now I'm hoping for is Gearbox's Duke Begins... but even that I wouldn't bet on getting released right now.
