Anyone still making maps?
Anyone still making maps for MP2?
Hehe, i started maxED today for the first time in like 4 years or so, it's strange how quickly it comes back to you. Not planning on making anything playable really but i thought that i might post some pics or something, if you have any recent projects feel free to post pics aswell. Here's what i started on today, only got a couple of hours work done so don't expect that this is anything final, and by modern games standards this looks rather horrible but you got to work with what you got aye :P

Re: Anyone still making maps?
Sexy indeed. And that image of the MaxED UI brings back some memories, i never released maps but i sure spent hours making some, and i remember how hard it was to to cylinders or round stuff on that editor.

1wayman: I didn't release any either. But this community taught me so much.
Also could you please remove that RTH link from your signature?? It's dead.

Re: Anyone still making maps?
probably, can't you even see the thumbnails? might be that since i modified the url to hotlink, it might be blocked by imageshack, although i can see them just fine :/

Re: Anyone still making maps?
Sorry man, but we pretty much declared it's dead. There wasn't any official announcement as such as the project lead was absent, but the community knows about it. We handed over most of the incomplete works to D3W so they can release SOMETHING someday. Some of the updated maps still lay with the respective mappers in their old hard disks/data backups.
This is probably the 4th failed project I was involved with. 1st: Braindead; 2nd: Blade(was obvious); 3rd: Blade/Punisher (was too much) and lastly Recall to Hell (management mess).

Re: Anyone still making maps?
Is there a way to generate cube maps or what not from within maxed? can't seem to remember, mainly talking about the "reflection" thingey which you can set inside a textures properties.
Edit: also anyone remember how you could set what parts of the level to be sent to volcalc? i remember i did this for the matrix roioftop battle i encased the top of the building inside a mesh and set it to only send that part for volcalc somehow which greatly speed up the process instead of sending the whole 200m void around the building there aswell :P Decided to remake the whole room from scratch and trying to make it more accurate, not much progress yet, but trying to put lots more details in everything as i go along.

Re: Anyone still making maps?
I know it's not a MP2 mod/map, but I'm still making my MP1 mod, DAWN OF THE DEAD.
Also, when you said you started up MaxED today for the first time in like 4 years, surely you meant MaxED 2 if this is a Max Payne 2 map, as you had my hopes up then thinking that someone else was still working on a MP1 mod/map too.. Also, when you said that your screenshot looks rather horrible but you got to work with what you got, well I've found that the MaxED engines are more powerfull then people give them credit for & are pretty much capible of doing most anything you want if your willing to work things out & put your mind to it. I know, I've got MaxED 1 doing all sorts of things in my mod that you wouldn't expect to see from the engine. I think the mistake that people make when they think of the MaxED 1 engine is that they seem to think that the engine is only as powerfull as the HL1 engine, as it was only released 2 years after HL1, but 2 years can make one hell of a differance, & the MaxED 1 engine is far more advanced then the HL1 engine, & MaxED 2 even more so. In fact I would say that MaxED 1 & 2 have more in common with the HL2 engine then the HL1 engine, especially MaxED 2, & no i'm not saying that MaxED 1 is just as powerfull as HL2's engine before anyone comments on that, i'm just saying that MaxED 1 features more stuff that your see in the HL2 engine then the HL1 engine, although the MaxED 1 engine it'self is quite a way off from that engine. I suppose what i'm trying to say is that the only limitataions with MaxED 1 & 2, boils down to the modders knowledge of the engine & his or her imagination, but the same could be said for most game engines. By the way, I think that your screenshot looks the Biz, & don't put your work down as this is just as good as anything i've seen in any modern game. Perhaps you realy should think of beginnning a new MP2 mod as you have obviously got the tallent. I also agree with you that it is strange how using MaxED or MaxED 2 comes straight back you you after you been away from it for so long, but i've always found that MaxED & MaxED 2 are probably the most user friendly game engines going & there very simular to use as MaxED 2 is virtually just an upgrade to MaxED so if you know how to use MaxED then you'll know how to use 90% of MaxED 2 already.....

Re: Anyone still making maps?
You should progress this into a mod, it would be cool to have a time travel mod as I don't think i've ever seen anyone do one before.
By the way, I liked the porthole with the water affect as it looked more like it does in stargate, & looks much cooler, but that's my opinion.

Re: Anyone still making maps?
Maxed1 and 2 lighting rocks. Period.
As for the cubemap thing, not really sure as it's been a long time. You make a cube. Don't rotate, I guess it might change the orientation of how the cubemaps will get baked. You never know. Then while it's selected, you click on the "Render CUbemap" thingy (guess it was in the menu bar). You put the size you want it to bake ... something like 256 x 256, which means each of the six sides of the cubemap will be of that size. Then after it's baked use it on your model/material. Sorry as this was a really bad type of help. I hardly gave you any information. But been a long time ... what to do ....

Re: Anyone still making maps?
Maxed is just increadibly versitile...it was smart for Remedy to move to dx9 before giving it up...because it still allows for modern looking maps. I was hoping a new version would be released but..knowing rockstar they are probably using unreal or something. I have one last map for my own mod that I haven't finished yet. it's pretty big and all I really need to do is place enemies and cutscenes. But I'm working on my Oblivion mod..I prob won't get to it until the end of this year. A whopping 6 yrs after Max Payne 2....wow.
