what\'s that \"virtualreality\" thing in wolf3d
start the wolf3d with the "virtual" parameter seems to do nothing but crash DOS with calling int 60h.

But what's that thing ?

That's weird. I never noticed that. You can look in the source code to see what it's supposed to do.

You know, that's really wierd. I was thinking that exact same thing no more than a week ago <insert spooky music here>. From what I can remember (in the few miutes which I spent looking at it), it seems to skip all the usual game menues and demos and go straight into the game, but on mine it just crashes too.

I guess if you were to just remove it, no one would notice.

I have already read the source code, and actually I've found that in the code.

In the code if we start the Wolf3d with "virtual" parameter, it won't switch to graphic mode and just call interrupt 60h to crash DOS. I don't know what that is.

Software interrupt 60h is used by DOS packet drivers for networking. Maybe it's some early networking code that doesn't work. That's my guess.

I believe it was a hook for something never developed. I'd have to look at it closer though, but I'm fairly sure that's right.

Remember not everything is SUPPOSED to do something.

Has this anything to do with Wolfenstein VR (for a VR booth-type game)?

I don't think so. I admit to not remembering 100% for sure, but I'm fairly confident they're two different things.

I remember seeing a Duke Nukem 3D VR booth at Kennywood theme park once. That was awesome

I just wish I knew more about it though

Oh yeah, I heard about Kennywood, one of my friends that I know originally comes from PA, so that's how I heard about that. As for the Duke 3D VR park, well, that might be too recent for him, he's been here in Cleveland for quite some time (can't wait to see if anything like this comes to Cedar Point or Geauga Lake one day).

BTW, back on topic. As for a Wolf 3D VR, well, that would all depend. I don't see the harm of that being done, but with today's technology, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if someone made a port that would make Wolf3D do that. As far as I can tell, that might not be likely to happen anytime soon. That's up in the air, I liked Wolf 3D in the day, but it's hard to say, with that source code out there, who knows what some creative minds would come up with?
