Duke through the planets?

Last days I was thinking about doing a space-based Duke v1.5 episode (just for fun, without commercial interests).

My idea is to make Duke pass through space-stations on the planets of the solar system. We only need a good plot (I mean a good story, sorry if my english isn't too good

), and good space-themed maps (made by good mappers

). Ideally, we should try to don't use additional textures, however I think we'll have to use some of them for the different skyes between the different planets. I think we could make some .CON modifications too.

A normal episode has 11 levels. I think the order of the levels should be from the inner planets to the outermost ones (the final boss could be in Pluto, or in something like "Planet-X", a creepy undiscovered planet). The order could be the following:

L1 - Mercury
L2 - Venus
L3 - Moon
L4 - Mars
L5 - Jupiter
L6 - Saturn
L7 - Uranus
L8 - Neptune
L9 - Pluto
L10 - Planet X
L11 (secret level) - Some natural satellite, like Phobos, Io, Titan, Triton or Miranda, or a space-station on the asteroid belt).

We need every map look like the planet in which the base is. For example, the mercury base environment must look like something... ehh... HOT

, and the Pluto level must look like something cold and creepy.

I think there are a lot of builders in this forum, so I hope someone of you get interested on this project and bring me some help

hell i'll help! this would be the perfect way to brsh up on my mapping skills.
how or where would you want each level to take place? in a space colony?
i got a moon map in my arsonal.but hell i can do mucury or pluto.

I didn't think on a earth level because almost every Duke level is earth-based. Also, my idea is to do an entirely space-based episode

But it won't be a bad idea to start in a earth military base or something and take a spaceship heading to Mercury

PS: I was listening to "The planets suite" by Gustav Holst, and I think it would be a very cool soundtrack for the episode

I can do the moon and pluto, perferably. I can start on the moon right now. Or any other planets you want me to do.

I believe earth should be included, just for the sake of completeness (and variation, because think of it: the player will be in dull space landscapes for the rest of the episode!

)
maybe you could split Earth/Moon into two, so they are one level?
for example, a rocket to Mars is on the moon, and you come from Venus and go to earth... and you have to find the hidden teleporter in the city to the Moon?

also, you should include the sun... "duke was born in the sun, and tries to go as far as possible, planet by planet"

You can start immediately with that planets if you want to

oak man: Mercury would be cool! Make sure the planet look like something HOT

And, yes. Make a space-station in Mercury surface.

Cerberus_e: I liked your idea. Could you help with that map?

I'll start with Mars, but I don't know what will we do with the beggining of the levels. All of them must fit with the exit of the previous level. May be an hangar and a spaceship for each level?

-i named the renamed map HOT so it is nolonger named mars
-bottom line is i'm doing murcury NOT MARS.

Hey fernito, do these levels have to end in a certain way?Because in the "HOT!!!"level duke exits the space station and finds ruins,ON MURCURY!!, and further in the ruins he discovers a portal.The portal or the end are not maped yet.But I can PM you a demo version of the level.

-I can't just take screenies because my "windows xp picture it 9 viewer" craped out on me.so would you like a WIP?

Yeah, start making Planet X!

But remember that "Planet X" must be the COOLEST level of the episode, because it's the boss level, so I think everyone of us have to contribute with something on it
