Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
I imagine it can be. Impaling enemies, using the forklift to pick up heavy objects and drop them on enemies, just plain running them over... the possibilities are endless.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
What I want to know is what are the possibilities and limits of the forklift.
Will it be in multiplayer as well? Will forklift racing or forklift drift be included or will we have to wait for an expansion pack? Will capture the forklift be limited to two teams or three+? |

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
I see no point in letting 2 random media representitives look at the game for 30 minutes. Why doesn't 3DR just release 30 minutes of narrated footage and then everyone in the bloody world can be "impressed"? I used to be a HUGE supporter of the not letting anyone see it till it's about done, but if you're going to show it to the two of them, let the rest of us see it. What makes them so damn special?
How about the scores of us who visit this damn site every day supporting the company who has taken my son's whole life to develop the game, no that would be fan-friendly! Sry, I just don't like 2 randomites being given 30 minutes of face time with a game they have lambasted in the past, while supporters get the shaft. |

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
I'm getting tired of looking on shack, digg or here and seeing a new DNF headline only to get excited thinking this is it, new media! a release date! some screenies! And then being dissapointed by the total lack of anything worthwhile.
C'mon now guys this is getting silly. I ask respectfully to please just go back to not talking about the game AT ALL or please, please when you do release something actually make it worthwhile looking at. I understand this is a Shack story but Joe linked to it and surely you could have asked them to say nothing at all, instead of nearly nothing at all.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
Maybe I'm biased, having posted on shacknews for the last few years, but this comes as no surprise. I see a lot of members here bitching, but why? George barely even knows you. On shacknews regular chats take place, it's not a forum like this. You get to know people really quickly and form deeper friendships.
Even moreso is the fact that shackers regularly meet in person. George was no stranger, this was a casual meet for them. They've chatted for years. I've only been there as a regular since what, the end of 2005 and I know some members more than the folks here....who've I've known since 2003. So don't go pointing your judgement fingers at George for choosing shacknews folks to show this stuff too. The fact that you are jealous and bitter only proves my point. |

Forklifts eh? Hope they aren't as painful to operate as the ones in San Andreas were, or as clumsy as Shadow Warrior's or sIn's...

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
Let me get this straight, George invites Shack to see the game so they can report that it's real (and has a forklift) but can't give out any info on Georges request. This is about as exciting as a hooker with a sharp tooth.
I want the last 5 minutes of my life back.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
It's not much, but it's reassuring to hear that they are both positive about the game holding up in todays market.
P.s. The impression I got was that the 2 shackers aren't just some random people, but actually friends of George, so lucky them.

I'd think - and this is a wild guess - that George probably likes not being the center of attention. He posts here and, for lack of a better way of saying, our collective digital mouths are wrapped tightly and tenderly around George's digital penis, as we pry hopelessly for any tidbit of info or Dukish 'thing.' At some other forum, where other developers frequent -- who certainly might give 3DR a run for their money -- George might be able to just blend in a bit more, and have a conversation or two without worry. Just my two cents, but don't deny the digital cock part if you've been on these forums longer than, I don't know, 5 years. That kind of commitment is penis worthy, and yes, I'm a part of the DNF clan too (in spirit, anyway). |

You still get excited? Damn, I'm wanting this game since more than 8 years now, I get only excited when I get Viagra by now. As a regular visitor of this site, I only consider the news on the 3DR frontpage worth getting excited about. They're the only real news concerning DNF. Everything else is just uneducated guesses.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
It amazes me how so many people, including Shack are lost in a whole DNFs legendary status and all. It's a game. Like any other. I don't need confirmations that it exists. I mean, come on, if somebody made a "this game really exists, really, we saw it!" type of news about ANY other game, even somebody's most anticipated one everyone would go like, what in a Hell is this nonsense, what type of ridiculous info is that. But noooo. It's DNF! "Better than nothing", "Be positive", "Nice to hear". Bullshit.
Personally, no, that's not something I would definitely want to read and in fact that's not something I would even remotely want to read. Once there's an official unveiling, new trailer, screenshots or preview, come and tell, but don't make news out of the fact that the game exists.

Morons should've sneaked in a hidden camera or something, but I know George won't let that happen. Since they probably frisk you before going into the development offices. All in all DNF is looking Great, that's all I needed to hear thank god. Now let's hope for more Media as well as a Trailer this year. Get ready to rock dudes, the time is definitely near!! STAY TUNED...

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
I think the praise is a little luke warm because the only thing this has really brought to the table is a bloody forklift. Nothing wrong with them. They have there place. Unfortunatly their place is in a warehouse lifting crates. Two of the most overused FPS cliches that no-one ever wants to see again.
Of course it might not be the case. It could be rocket powered space forklift lifting huge piles of dripping naked women from an alien run theme park to a chainsaw factory (without a warehouse). Now that would be exciting. But it doesn't say that, so we're all thinking forklift, warehouse, crate, please hold the line while I rip my own liver out. And what else is mentioned? Some weapons are complete. Again by saying the glass is half full we're all seeing the empty portion and thinking "The weapons aren't finished!" I believe the phrase is something like "damned with faint praise" but it's not exactly glowing. Maybe they couldn't say too much so this is more down to obligations to keep quiet than anything else - but it sounds like saying "I have seen the future, and it's meh, ok-ish" Doens't exactly inspire. Oh and we NEED inspiration....

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
I'm sorry I may be missing out on a great investment opportunity but I'm not going to bet on a horse that we haven't seen run for more than 10 years. Over that length of time form becomes less of a factor. A horse that all we've seen is the odd glimpse of it's arse and soem guys on Shack News saying "yep. It's got a tail and most of it's legs are working."
Alright I ran the analogy into the ground, and it may be the best game going, but at this stage the only people who really know that are keeping tight-lipped.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
well i dunno all theexcitement of this message from shacknews, there is not really new information in it and it's like "folks i was on the toilet 30 mins ago", "wooow, really?". i dont want to spread negative feelings but this info really was nothing special etc. just that people visit shacknews like mad people and their visit meter is rising.
the "george shows pics in the toilet or cinema" story was much better told and somehow funny, but this is pure nonsense... |

We both confidently agree that after seeing this demonstration, Duke Nukem Forever is looking great, and will easily stand apart from the crowd in both visual and gameplay styles.
THAT says it all...

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
I do agree on one thing from you guys: We aren't getting told anything on Shacknews that we don't already know other than they can CONFIRM that the game is acutally being made. I, personally, am sick of "conspiracy theories". IMHO, the worst case senerios would be that (1. it's being developed for console ONLY, (2. Wind up being scraped again only to be restared, or (3. Just being made by 3DR to stay in-house for testing technology. I have said this in a previous thread that the last major DN titles after DN3D were made for console except the Manhatan Project. I'm not doubting they are working on it, but I will hold my "YA HOO!" until I see concrete screen shots.
