Updates for Wangbang
Several updates have been made with regard to Wangbang.
1. PlayWang (launcher) has had major updates to accomodate the Wangbang execution. Players need to select a different option, ie, Host a Game and a Join a game and each others IP Address for it to work correctly. If you get a "Game out of Sync" means both logged on as Hosts or Joins. Currently only 2 players can play as there is no real "Server" or "Host" as such and once connection is made, any player can setup the game and start the match. It would seem that the code cannot see more than one IP address atm. With Playwang you can now launch, either the normal Game, a Total Conversion or a User map in Wangbang play and any SP map for that matter as long as the "Host" switches off Monsters. 2. Swp.exe (2.3) Swp has now also been updated to all the latest code with the extra Statusbars added to the Wangbang Hud. All the above WB tests were done using Swp.exe although some tests were done with Sw.exe During the tests it was noted that either Sw.exe or Swp.exe can be used and are 100% compatible with each other in Wangbang.

Re: Updates for Wangbang
Quite a few issues:
- PlayWang default exe is the original SW 1.2 exe?! -If I change in the .ini for it to use swp.exe it works (but I don't want to use swp.exe! See below.) - I replaced my sw.exe with JonoF's and it's still starting the sw 1.2 exe? I don't even know if that's on my hard drive! Is it built into playwang's exe or something?! ^ I don't even understand how these above issues are happening, it's very weird....when it starts the old sw 1.2, it asks me which config file I want to use (because playwang.cfg is in the same dir) and then exits with an error, but the command prompt window closes too fast to read it. - Tooltip on recently played maps button is wrong - with SWP.exe Nukes often put the game out of synch (never had this problem using JonoF's oct 9 release) - host/join is not accurate terminology - can't seem to bind multiple actions to a single key (flash bomb + smoke bomb) |

Playwang or any program for that matter cannot tell the difference between Sw.exe versions. You must have the original Sw.exe 1.2 in the folder. Quote:

It starts whatever Sw.exe in the folder. Quote:
Command prompt window ???, you sure do have problems Quote:

- Fresh download, unzip, install of PlayWang, no external files in the directory except sw.grp - run PlayWang.exe - Don't change any settings, just click "Play SW" - see screenshot here: http://samswashbuckler.ath.cx/img/Pl...20SW%201.2.jpg - for some unknown reason (something in the windows registry?) is it running: D:\Games\!BUILD\SW\SW\Sw.renamed.exe - as you can see, it's not in the same directory, and I even renamed it to try to eliminate this problem! WTF is going on?! Quote:

Re: Updates for Wangbang
That DOS box you have is wierd and I have never seen that before.
What OS you running ? Looks like you have a fixed Path set in your OS that points to an original Sw v1.2 installation. Someting to try, rename your Sw.exe to say ZZ.exe and try it again. Your Player1 and Player2 I disagree with. The WB mode in SW is designed to be a "Host" and Client" cenario but it does not work and that is a code problem somewhere. It is supposed to be able to handle a "Host" or perhaps a "Server" and 3 "Clients". Anyways the names are a hang over from DN and whats in a name anyway Would be interesting to see what you DOS hangup is as that I'm sure is unique. I wonder if anyone else is having similar problems or can perhaps shine some light on this problem you are having.

The weird part was that PlayWang was running that file which seems to be TOTALLY unrelated. I'd already renamed it, hence the Sw.renamed.exe filename. After UNINSTALLING SW v1.2 it works fine, but something in there is obviously using info from the windows registry to find the .exe to use. Happy bughunting. Quote:

Re: Updates for Wangbang
Well I now installed my original SW CD to try and get what you have and there is just no way I can replicate what you are getting, I even installed everything on a Win98 box and still that DOS box does not appear.
Playwang does not look into the registry or anywhere for anything. Another thing you can try is start your Sw.exe from the Start - Run command and see what happens as thats basically exactly what Playwang does. Start - Run and type in: C:\Playwang\Sw.exe Or whatever your sw folder is. Playwangs Sw startup command if you know C is as follows: ShellExecute(NULL, "Open", "Sw.exe", NULL, swPath.c_str(), SW_SHOWNORMAL); Which it leaves it entirely up to Windows as to what Shell to use.

Re: Updates for Wangbang
I'm glad you can't replicate it, and I don't really care why it happened, since I don't need the orig. SW installed, but I doubt it's somehow my system's fault.
Suggesting a virus is just silly. The virus that makes PlayWang use some other obscure .exe? I think not. As for it going out of synch, I think the problem may have simply been that I was playing with noobs and they started the game with the wrong button. I will test SWP more soon, but Jono's is stable as can be. And still can't seem to bind multiple actions to a single key; It's nothing I've tried doing until now, but it normally DOES "work", for example if I change the Walk Backwards key to S without unbinding S from smoke bomb, it will try to use a smoke bomb every time I walk backwards. Doesn't seem to work for multiple items though, like Smoke Bomb + Flash Bomb. It'd be appreciated if this could be ironed out to at least be consistent, if not functional. |

Re: Updates for Wangbang
No its not silly. A virus can infect an exe and copy that exe elsewhere as a backup and even if you delete the suspect one, another infected one is hiding somewhere. Also a virus can install registry entries to point to a different file when a certain infected exe is accessed.
i.e. playwang accesses sw.exe and because theres a rogue registry entry it actually runs some other exe. Its not silly to suggest this, but it is silly to dismiss it as a possibility ! All you have to do is a quick scan to check.

Re: Updates for Wangbang
Alright hitman71, to make you happy, I did a full scan with an online scanner and I have no viruses. Nonsense aside:
SWP is in fact very stable (I used PlayWang, opponent used command line, in both normal & user maps), it must have been going out of synch before because the people I was playing against were too inept to use the right start button A friend of mine is having other problems with PlayWang though, he just created an account here and I guess we'll have to wait a week until it's authorized. Re: Updates for Wangbang
is everyone on broadband ? i wonder if the ones going out of sync are on 56k ?
There is one thing i've noticed. In the main episode, i was getting 1 or 2 crashes per level on LAN multiplayer. I disabled my highres pack and the crashes dropped to 10% of what i was getting.
