DNF Demo $5
I wonder if 3DR ever considered releasing a level or two of DNF... for like $5 as a "demo"

They used to release demos in the past, why not now?

That would give fans something to play, and 3DR some cash flow...

Those demo's were free, I doubt any intelligent customer would pay money for two levels. But there are always the hardcore fanboys who will buy anything relating to thier favorite <enter whatever his favorite thing is here>.

Sooner or later there will be a Duke nukem monopoly. Do not pass go, do not collect $200 single dollar bills lol.

Actually, IF DNF is far enough that 3DRealms would be able to build a demo version, it might be a good idea to do this and release it for free.
This way, potential investors may be attracted...

I think a couple bucks for a Prey-like demo for hardcore fans before am official demo is out is a good way to prove DNF's viability for investment is a good idea. It will help with funding, too. It will help their case.

They can release lt for free instead, which will only do the latter.

Exactly, now maybe if it was 20 levels and only $5 then I beleive everyone would buy it. Hell with the mess going around they'll be lucky enough just to get the game released.

DNF should only be $5-10 dollar, billions will be sold world wide.

It might surprise you to learn that games aren't finished starting from the first level to the last.

What I'm trying to say is that the first half of the game is probably just as unfinished as the last one.

3DR can maybe release a DNF Prologue ... and they can ask more than 5$.

I know, but supposedly most of the levels were in the 90% complete range, so if they could finish up just one half of the game with a small team.....

I'd pay for episodic content without hesitation. Steam comes to mind yet again.
And I feel I could pay $10-15 for a stand alone "demo" of the stadium boss fight.

While I do understand your point if you actually look at the way most games, particularly those in the FPS genre, taper off into bland, uninspired repetition it's quite obvious games are made in a more start to finish way than, say, films. So I wouldn't doubt that the opening levels are closer to completetion than the later ones.

On topic: I think that this situation is made for episodic content. Well actually 3D Realms previous situation, when they had developers, was made for espisodic content. I'm sure George just wanted to get it all done so it would have maximum impact (I believe that was the reason for all the secrecy too. I'm sure they wanted to create a complete experience and not have it tainted/spoiled by trailers and endless previews. Which is a fantastic idea, as long as you can get the game done in a reasonable time that is) but it would have been a much smarter bet to make smaller episodes to fund further development.

a demo is supposed to be free! Duke Nukem or not this is a bad idea. I really hate that concept of charging people for something that should and has almost always been free.

And when do people realise that there are no employees to make the damn demo in the first place. Do you think George and Scott are gonna sit down and make it, test it etc. Please be realistic, relax and wait for some more info on what is gonna happen.

Right now a demo would be the only reasonable thing to do, but knowing George, he's probably deleted entirely the latest build and moved on to Cryengine with the money he's made selling his house.

This is really something to keep at it, the developers have left due to lack of funding. 3DR cannot hire and complete the game. A lot of the game has been made, but what about audio and music. If the demo would be released it would have no extra work done with no one to develop it. This thread is just to keep on and on about the game.

3DR are a great team and should be helped to stay in business not kept on to make this game. Even if there is a demo, who would publish it and distribute it ?

It's not particularly hard to put a download up on the internet and charge $5 for it. They are doing that already with their ancient 2D DOS games.

2 levels of DNF for $5? I'd buy it. Shit I'd buy it twice. Think about it, you go to an arcade, you spend your $5 and it doesn't go far. Stay at home, get the duke demo for $5 and play it for as long as you want and investigate everything in the maps as much as you want, I know I personally would probably get a hell of a lot of enjoyment out of those two maps.

It sounds good to me... though it being a demo it really ought to be free, but 3DR needs the dosh and I'd have no problem handing out a tiny amount of money, to get a glimpse of what I've been waiting 12 years to see :P

I guess another idea would be to do what Valve is doing with Half Life 3... HL2 Eps 1 and 2 are effectively HL3's first and second installments.

Something off-topic, anyone notice the job that's advertised on the 3DR site? It's probably just an out-dated page but I'm kind of hoping it's not.

I would pay $5 for a 3 to 3 level DNF Demo. And no I wouldn't want $ 5 discount on the full retail game when it will be release either. Come on its on $ 5. We spend way lot more money on beers, useless girls that just waste our time in pubs and on useless junk food. Why count 5 dollars now. This is nothing but cheap ass talking, spending 5 bucks on the demo and therefore wanting 5 bucks discount on the full game . Seriously I am suprised that they dont want 3DR to deliver the game to their door step in a lambourghini with Angelina Jolie in bikinis just because they have donated 5 bucks for a game demo which otherwise they would have wasted in a pub/drink anyway.

As for the demo, try asking the question outside of these fan flooded forums to see how many people are actually prepared to pay for a demo. You won't even get as far as having to think about how to get Take 2 to spend time and money on distributing it...

I hate to say this but I really don't think that a demo is likely - It would mean that the graphics engine was completely finished and that all the AI and weapons, well... just about everything was done and ready.

If they were that close to releasing the game then do you think we would be having this conversation ???

DLC means you got to pay for it, don't know why pc users are using console terms to describe stuff these days. Wait a minute, computer and console = fifteen complete letters without using the word 'and'.

Now take 3D Realms and you get 8 letters, so 15 x 8 = 120

Now pc really means personal computer so the letters = 16

120 x 16 = 1920 / 8 (3D Realms) and you get 240.

Ok now you take 1920 - 240 and you get 1680 \ 16 (number of letters in personal computer) = 105.

Now you take 105 / 15 (computer and console letters, Which DNF will be released on) and now you have 7 + the number of letters in 3D Realms and your final answer is 15.

15 = years

So DNF will actually take 15 years to complete and not a year longer. Just another piece to the puzzle that is The Duke Nukem code.
