The press release (http://www.shacknews.com/docs/press/20090518_dnf_3dr_.x) is not so accurate though.

They say we let the "Duke Nukem Forever (DNF) development team go on May 6th", while all the staff was let go except one or two persons (for example you can't describe Joe's position in 3d realms as just another member of the Duke Nukem Forever (DNF) development team, can you?)

For me, Joe and Allen Blum for instance were very important "elements" of what we call 3d Realms...

I hope George and Miller survive with this mess and bring all the key players back...

Joe was also webmaster IIRC. I think it means that all development POSITIONS were let go; those that had different roles as well were kept on at least temporarily to cover the transition to a "smaller company."

Yeah, but with all the misquoting and blatantly false info being posted in these forums (even in the thread about that very press release), George obviously felt the need to state it again, and rightly so.

It's amazing how fast the info in that statement gets turned into "closed" and "bankrupt" on the internet.

Liked him more when he was too busy playing Fallout 3 and WOW, y'know, doing important stuff.

PS: That George Broussard's time travelling experiments, taking information from the past and feeding it into the future.

I see that wieder has a change of heart for 3d realms unfortunately, but i guess that was expected since i bet he has helped a lot of former 3d realms developers find a job and has seen their agony and despair very closely. I bet most of them are in a state of shock and sadness and have the same feelings for their departure....

My hopes for them getting back on their old job seem very very slim as the days pass

While I won't pretend to know anything real about the situation, I do feel like it was this or having the company go down. The end-result for the employees being pretty similar.

Though if I don't know enough about the 'big picture' feel free to point that out.

Re: george twitties
I really don't have much of a hope that we'll see anything for quite some time. When you get rid of the people that "actually" produce, then you have eliminated the chance for a product. In this case I imagine that it's especially hard to eventually get replacements since almost all of DNF code-base is custom and there's got to be a lot of it considering the development time. Even if the finances get back on track: Would the previous developers want to go back? I doubt it. It's not like they had inferior talent and can suddenly hire superior "Einsteins" that'll get this puppy wrapped out and out of the door in no time.

But, nevertheless, in the end, the weighting of the options forced them to let go of the DNF developers which I'm sure ranks up there with the hardest decision George and Steve has ever had to make. I wish both 3DR, the remaining staff and the people who were let go all the best.

The cake company just went bust. It's getting sued by the 'fresh baked goods delivery service' company for failing to give them a product, but they are still operating as a smaller company and will sell their old cupcakes instead.

Well that's actually an easy one to answer.
You lost at least 12 years just working at one game, so time flies fast when you are having fun for lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots AND LOOOTS of time developing DNF.
So I can at least point out 12 years that you lost for nothing as it may seem...
Only you can change that. You should decide if they were lost for nothing by releasing or not releasing DNF.

Sorry, but I feel I've given enough support to 3DR over the years only to have it end up the way it did. Besides, consoles & portables mean nothing to me, so if that's all there is going to be of 3DR games in the future, then count me out.

"Stay Tuned", "More to come", "Always bet on Duke" Yeah, sure.

Kicking them when they're down? Maybe. But looking back at all those years, I feel that's what was done to us.
