Max Payne 3
Analysts love conference calls. It's as if they are bears, and the money-talking words of a group of businesspersons at a long oak table are sweet, delicious honey. They also love predictions. I love this prediction. Ben Schachter, Evan Wilson and The Pachter all agree that Take-Two will be digging up two franchises in the next couple of years. One is Max Payne. The other is Red Dead Revolver. That would be great! I'm a man who loves his Leone westerns, and Red Dead was just one long slightly-interactive tip of the hat to those classics. A current-gen sequel, where the gameplay actually matches the mood and setting, would be a winner.

Thumbs up Max Payne 3 in 2009....?

Turning to fiscal 2009, and Rockstar in particular, Hickey says not only its GTA franchise and possible Wii, PS2, or PSP extensions should help Take Two growth, but also LA Noire and possible unannounced content like a new Max Payne or Red Dead Revolver.

It's not much but hey it's still counts for something. I know Remedy won't come back but the least Take 2/Rockstar do is get Sam Lake and the other Remedy writers to pen the script.

You're right. The story writter of the game is at least to me the most important. Now, if they try they'll make the game as good as Remedy would do it but probably not in the way Remedy would have done it.

GTA on Wii? Yes please. Another Max Payne would also be most welcome. Remedy took the high road not milking it, and shifting focus to a new IP.. but I wouldn't mind the copyrights holder milking it

Wasn't their choice. Don't forget that Max Payne 2 was not "decided" by Remedy or 3DR. Inbetween 1 & 2, we sold the franchise rights to Take 2. They then contracted us to make Max 2. The decision to do Max 2 was "controlled" by Take 2.

The fact there hasn't been a movie or a Max 3 is Take 2's choice. It's most definitely NOT a fact of "not wanting to milk" a franchise. Two games isn't really much of a franchise anyway, is it?

^^Probably but.. I mean, I believe unless you really hate a creation you have made you won't care about the character, and I don't feel as if Remedy or Sam Lake hate Max Payne, Sam Lake created it, and as its creator, at least I, He should be worried about the future of it.
For example, 3D Realms would never licence and produce a Duke game knowing the 'developer a' is likely to make a bad thing to the character and franchise, right? Unless they don't care like Shadow Warrior..
And well, as much as I care from a creation I did, I would love to be involve in it and take care about the development of the character in the story of his life.. That's mainly why "I think" Sam should return as a writer...

But well, we don't even know if Max Payne 3 is coming out for fact is just and analyst prediciton, so by now everyone including me get down of that cloud of illusions...

The problem with the second game of max payne 2 was that it didn,t move the gameplay any further, they had killer graphics, killer physics, killer story, but they even simplified its gameplay, i guess for console issues.

if they are to make a max payne 3, they will need to add some new gameplay features, or else fewer people would care... i suggest a gameply style in the style of that die hard 4.0 scene in the nerds dorm, where the whole appartment got blasted away by bulletholes, bruce taking the fire extinguiser, etc... more hectic brutal improvised combat by max...

They obviously had something in the pipeline when 2 was completed. MP2 ended with "Max Payne's journey into the night will continue". Maybe not a full game but a rough idea or estimate what his next adventure going to look like.

Did they? I don't remember that happening. I've been playing both Max Payne more than any game since 2003 and never notice it

the move Max does while reloading weapons are kinda new feature to me.
I would hate complex gameplay like some shooters, what I like from Max Payne is that it is the way it is.. Maybe adding some features won't hurt I guess.
They have to do it better than Stranglehold.

You probably were not, but I felt it was crap. I understand what they were trying to do with the game but IMHO Max Payne aimed at doing something totally different. Max Payne was never about running through a level guns a blazing without having to reload or think, and it was never gimmicky like Stranglehold came across. What I love about Max Payne is that you can play both titles without touching bullet time and still have an awesome experience or you can use it but it never comes across as gimmicky like it did in Stranglehold.

Maybe Rockstar will have Remedy make the game, they are almost finished with Alan Wake, so they could do it! No one will do as good a job as Remedy will on Max Payne III, so it's best to have them make it. At the very least, they should get Sam Lake to write the story. And it's critical they get the same guy to do Max's voice, his voice is perfect and Max has always sounded that way.

The blog mention of Max Payne 3 hasn't carried over to here from the Alan Wake boards, so read and ph33r:

Well, either way Rockstar is going to make Max Payne III, whether they get Remedy to make it or not. Hopefully they will get them, but if not, then we just have to pray that whoever does make it won't mess it up.

Remedy currently has nothing to do with Max Payne 3. The only thing they are doing at the moment is possible collaboration with the creators of a Max Payne movie.
It's hard to tell when Alan Wake will be completed, Microsoft estimates are for 2008. Even then, Remedy has plans to create more games in the Alan Wake series.
We are aware of the Surfer Girl blog and I can assure you that Remedy have made no indications of involvement with future Max Payne titles.

Well, the big mistake was selling the Max Payne name rights to Take 2 in the first place. Here you have one of the best PC game series there is, with a very loyal and dedicated fan base, and now some dummies at Take 2 are sitting on it when Remedy should be making Max Payne III as we speak. Which, on top of Max Payne II, would have made plenty of money for both Remedy and 3D Realms and would continue to do so for years, since fans obviously would then want Max Payne IV and V. If you ever get the chance, please buy the rights back (at least get the rights for the PC version) and get Remedy on Max Payne III as soon as possible.

Dunedain: They didn't want to do another Max Payne is the key thing here. Most people on the team had worked on Max Payne for 4-5 years, naturally you want to try something else after a while. That's Alan Wake. Rockstar have plenty of good dev teams if they want to make another Max Payne.

Max Payne 3, no Faults from MP2 i hope !
well MP2 wasn't bad but the feeling of MP1 was gone i think:

- i want to play max payne and not mona sax.....
- mona sax sucked, it was so cliche
- the enemies mostly had the same skins.... cleaner
- the story development was very simple........
- more music like in MP1 and not only orchestral stuff !
- the beginning and the whole story disappointed me, it was too simple that max began as a police again, i really wanted to see him in the court alone against all and vladimirt helping him get out etc. mystery mystery haha !
there wasn't really the feeling of a lone ex cop taking revenge, most stuff was normal again + mona was too much cliché.........
- more adult story and straighter action stuff, no romantical stuff, i still miss painskins !

From a fan perspective it may appear to be a mistake (no MP3 or a crappy MP3 w/o Remedy), but from 3DR and Remedy's perspective, it was a must-do.

Take Two paid 3DR and Remedy a huge sum for Max Payne. If I remember correctly, it set a record for amount paid for an intellectual property in the videogame sector.

In business, one can't walk away from a deal like that.
