Is this true?
I can't remember where I found it, but once I saw a website that had a strange biography that was sorta like this:

William (Billy) J. Blazkowicz born in 192x of 2 Euroupean Immigrants, in 194x B.J. Became a spy, and fought the Nazis, in the 60's he got married and had a son, his son went of to california and became a talk show host. Because his last name was too long, he changed it to Blaze. He then had a son with an IQ of 314 that signs his papers with the initials B. Blaze.

Mine osn't as accurate as the story I saw, but what this is trying to say is that B.J. Blazkowicz from Wolfenstien 3D is Commander keen's Grandpa, and it makes sense, is this true???

I think the original text comes from either the Wolfenstein 3D manual, or the hint book.

Re: Is this true?
BTW, Rise of the Triad was originally supposed to be Wolfenstein 3d 2, and the .wad file format was barrowed from ID software. (Correct me if i'm wrong)

WAD is just a technique for storing several files as one (much like Westwoods MIX). I believe the format was taken from ID.

I don't recall .wad in ROTT.

Re: Is this true?
Yes ROTT very definately uses the WAD file format and it was borrowed from Id with their consent. Various other bits of Doom type code also ended up in ROTT too according to Mark Dochtermann.

The ROTT WAD is used primarily for storing graphics, sound and music. The RTL file (ROTT LEVEL File?) contains the 2D map data.

Both the WAD file format and the RTL file format are documented and fairly easy to work with.

Re: Is this true?
Lets test your theory.

Commander Keen was the first, OK.
Wolf3d: Keen's Grandfather
DOOM: No connection to others
DOOM II: same characters as DOOM (duh) Wolf3d level, dead Keens
Quake: Dopefish
Quake II: Dopefish
Quake 3: Arena: Dopefish?, DOOM guy as a character.
so, DOOM has no connection to other games. and apart from the Dopefish, neither do the Quakes.

Re: Is this true?
The Dopefish is just a cameo appearance, saying that those games are "limked ny characters" is really pushing it, it's like saying that all ID games have John and Adrian Carmack in their credits, and also the ID logo on them.
