Classic Apogee Themes. (Video)
I've always liked the how Apogee started its games. So I constructed a video on Apogee opening themes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUGzxkfmuiQ&fmt=18

If you seen the original video before that one was deleted. The newer video is more completed over the first.

Hocus Pocus and Mystic Towers are after Blake Stone. Plus they are also in the video description.

Hey, I watched this. Pretty fun.

I do wonder why they're not in the order of release. What's the significance of the order they're in?

Also, you should use the Youtube annotation feature to stick text at the bottom saying what game it is "on screen".

Or more likely this thread could be a "Guess the Apogee" thread and would want us to guess them all and a grand prize for the one who guess all of them correctly! (Not including 3D R staff obviously ) Meh, I'm actually proud of what I got, even remembering most of those is fun, playing those was even more fun. (And for some of them, it still is! )

Now what fun would that be if you knew what came next. There really isn't too much of an order. The video really is more for fun. Plus to bring back memories of hearing that theme before starting the game.

As for the annotation. I'll get to it soon.

Make a new version that puts them in order. Just don't delete the current one, make a separate one.

Also, while cool, the bleeps & blobs in the PC speaker games don't really count as the Apogee Theme. We never viewed it that way. I understand why you have them there, and I don't object, but it's not "technically" the Apogee theme, if you want to play the semantics game.

Edit: Oh man, I just forgot something. I need to email you something Lee Jackson did as a goof years ago. The "Batman" version of the Apogee theme.

Am I the only one to think that the versions from Mystic Towers and Wacky Wheels, with the proper enhancements (without the silly ending in the first case and without the obnoxious sound effects in the second), could work as a newscast opening in DNF, a Duke Nukem movie or anything else 3DRealms-related?

I don't have a problem remaking the video. I still have the original files saved so it won't take long. I also sent you a pm with my e-mail in it.

If any one else knows of any others that I left out. Please let me know.

The Bat Phone version?
Bobby Prince had it on his site back in the day, and I still have it (MP3 version).
There's also the Caribbean version.

No, Lee Jackson did this. It was the standard Apogee theme, but towards the end it goes off into the Batman music by Danny Elfman.

Actually I think it's something Bobby Prince did for kicks.
I tried the Wayback Machine (18 january 2000 is the last version that hosted all the music files).
Some of the files won't load properly any more, although I'm pretty sure they used to.
I think it's midiplayer.html at the bottom left that changed depending on the song loaded.
As I remember it, it said he (Prince) made it for fun, and figured maybe one day there'd be a game he could use it for, or something along those lines.

His "Bat Phone" version, apparently different from the theme Joe mentioned, it pretty much the basic theme, but with a phone ringing used as the instrument.
I'd really like to hear the other Batman version now!

I appreciate you taking the time to do this, however the quality of whatever sound card midi device you did this on had me almost in tears. If you like, you can send me the midi files, and I would be happy to play them back and record and send you the recordings on either a SC-55, SC-55 (Emulated by the SC-8850), SC-88 (Emulated by the SC-8850), SC-88Pro (Emulated by the SC-8850) or a SC-8850. I'm not bashing your work, it's just that after having a few actual real midi devices to play with, I'd never go back to using just a sound card, and I'd like to help share my love of true midi with everyone else.

I think the one's that were rendered on the MS GS synth set are the ones posted by both me and Joe above.

In fact, some of the games could use an external MiDi synth if configured correctly. I think selecting General MIDI in the game setup will tell DOSbox to use the default Windows MIDI device.

Alternatively, try to locate the Gravis Ultrasound sound set and configure DOSbox accordingly.

Awesome video all these Apogee logos pretty much defines my childhood with pc gaming in the 90's and now i really know what Apogee is, it just really digs deep in your head when you've seen this since you were 5-6-7 years old and now i'm 18. I don't remember the theme since i didn't think we had any speakers at that time but apogee games was also a big part of my kindergarden where i remember we had a big poster on the wall with the Apogee logo.
