Who were the voices of the 2nd trailer?
Maybe this has already been answered, I don't know, but does anyone know who the voice actors were for the 2001 DNF trailer?

That woman who says "We're all gonna die" sounds a lot like Kath Soucie from shows like Rugrats and Sonic the Hedgehog. Of course, she isn't credited for this on IMDb so I don't really know.

I hope I'm not treading old territory.

Joe is the soldier who says, "You gonna save the world all by yourself." If I recall. It's been a while since I thought about this stuff.

Oops, sorry about that. I looked through the archives and I haven't seen anything like this. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.

edit: I've looked through the two archive DNF pages, and I've seen talk about the voice of Duke Nukem. I'm more interested in the people that actually talk in the trailer. I'll keep looking.

I don't believe we have the information. They were just some voice actors we chose on short notice through a voice director we worked with. I think if I dug hard enough the names of the actors are on the wav file names.

Aren't those wavs absent(or will be) from the current build though, either disappearing in the restart or because they weren't intended to be shippable?

Yeah, it appears the old msg is gone in an old thread purge some months ago.

Anyway, my voice is background chatter right after the pinball machine and a shot of a jeep driving towards a checkpoint gate. It occurs at 57 seconds into the video. It's non-descript EDF soldier talk (He's there! Take Cover) - things like that. If I remember right, several of my lines were overlapped on top of each other in the video, so it's hard to make out any one of them, and my voice is only on there for a second or so. I'm pretty sure my voice work (such that it was) from 2001 isn't in the game anymore, but I'd have to ask our sound guy about it.

The "...save the world all by yourself" voice is definitely not me. In fact, as George said, I don't believe any of the voices in the trailer were in house 3DR staff, except for odd things like what I mentioned above about myself. I know the face of the "save the world" guy is modeled after someone here, but the voice is not.

True, but they would still have the data from the old builds including the sound files used.

Yeah that was my question, whether he was referring to old archives. 2001 was a long time ago and George's comments indicated a clean break since then. I wanted to know whether it applied to dialogs as well as the rest of the content. Also consider they may still use those in current builds as placeholders.

i don't think they deleted it all, i'm sure they have some of the better stuff from previous builds. Some of that stuff would be cool to see in a behind the scenes video on DNF, of course that will be shipped in a special edition of DNF which will of course be released When Its Done.

Pretty much a 95% scrap. All the art has been redone. Not one pixel of the 2001 video remains. Some levels have been updated or kept, but they were just early shells anyway. In short, pretty much a full re-start.

and:

Very late 2002. The rendering was up and running and we knew it would all work.

As for why we didn't grab Doom 3 in 2001 with Prey? Maybe we should have, but we had tons of gameplay code that would have been a nightmare to port over. We maintained all that through our engine upgrade.

Also Doom 3 as an engine was still a long way from being done as a shippable engine in 2001. It was a while before things stabilized and were prety solid, as is always the case with engines in development.

Ahh....hindsight

I mean, how difficult is it to check if the stuff you post here is also added on the wiki and doing it yourself. The only difference between there and here is you ego-maniacs don't get the glory. Given the amount of DNF information available, if there is a difference, it's probably not worth bragging about!

By gameplay, do you mean the ability to ride vehicles, snipe enemies, etc? He said the content is scrapped, "not a pixel" is left, so I guess the features are in.
Such words can get skewed and dissected to death.

Well George specifically said that Duke won't be sniping in DNF. But the things you mention are all gameplay and would fall under this quote:

Quote:
As for why we didn't grab Doom 3 in 2001 with Prey? Maybe we should have, but we had tons of gameplay code that would have been a nightmare to port over. We maintained all that through our engine upgrade.
However that just means that no such things have been removed on the account of the restart, individual things might have been removed for other reasons. Also the quote that FireFly mentioned in regard to gameplay is a different one. Which has since been lost to history, apparently.
