Don't get me wrong, I love Duke and it's probably my favorite game ever, but I'd have to vote for Deus Ex. Unfortunately, I have the same thing to say as TerminX; you know the world is full of noobs when both Duke Nukem 3D and Deus Ex are beaten by Half-Life 2.

Duke 3D wasn't beaten by Half-Life 2 so I don't see where you get that from.

Also I think Half-Life 2 was a great game, for different reasons than Deus Ex naturally - but still. Myself I do consider Deus Ex to be better, but not by a very large margin.

Deus ex is one of the best games of all time, a future of computer games in my opinion (I mean RPG/FPS hybrid). But it's not pure FPS.. so I think Doom should win. Too bad..

I enjoyed Half Life 2. I find it great that after all these years Duke 3D is still top.

It has only been judged harshly because its predecessor was so great. As a stand-alone game though, it's pretty good, even receiving an 80% score at Gamespot.

No, it's not, even when compared to the first. Agreed, in a comparison Deus Ex will come off as better but IW won't look like complete crap. The demo doesn't really do it much justice at all, and if it weren't for the really small levels and the overall "dreamy" feel it would certainly hold up just as much. The core gameplay elements of Deus Ex are still there even though the story is a lot less immersive.

I always thought IW was crap myself, until I actually played it and had a good time.

"lets take out everything from the first Deus Ex that made it the best game out there and make Deus Ex 2! That's a great idea! It will not fail!

As you can see, I'm a bitter bastard about it. I still can't believe what they did to one of the best names in gaming. However, judge it as a stand alone game and it's pretty okay. I've finished it IW on PC and Xbox and didn't enjoy it at all. I might have enjoyed it if I hadn't already finished the first game countless times.

It's certainly not the best FPS of all time - but that doesn't have anything to do with it's age. The best FPS of all time should be one that had 'new' innovations, such as Duke 3D on interactivity, Half-Life on story, System Shock 2 or Deus Ex on character development...

Half-Life 2 was a great game but if you look at all the other shooters out there it's not very different than all the others. "Just another" on-a-rail shooter.

Hm I gotta try Deus Ex and Far Cry too.

Shame DN3D doesn't look like it's gonna win, getting to the final is quite impressive tho, for a game of it's age (not saying it's not incredible).

I am not professional gamer. I can't play everything. But I played most old good games (not all of course).
Honesty I know nothing about 20% in this list.

Young gamers usually don't know old games at all. They know only modern games. After a while most gamers will forget most of these games.

Yeah and that's mostly in a "yeah I heard of it" manner.. and then when they see a shot they go "OMG GRAPHICS SUCK". I was playing Operation Flashpoint sometime and a few friends dropped by and they couldn't get over the bad graphics.

Ahh I see. Well even in that case I don't think so. Half-Life 2 will still be remembered in 10 years (in what way we don't know yet).

However games like.. Call of Duty 3 or something are bound to become a part of a full CoD series with 20 different installments and it'll be nothing special anymore

In my oponion () IW had more freedom than DX... You could kill a main character and continue the game facing the consequences, but in DX the core characters were invincible until a certain part in the game. Multitools were also more important because you NEED them to get into certain areas, unlike DX. In DX I often had around 20 multitools.

I played IW first so, of course, I thought it was great; I bought DX thinking it would make IW look like shit but to my surprise I love IW just as much as DX.
