Main menu freeze
Hey,

I've installed Prey no worries, but when I load the game it goes to the menu screen and I am unable to interact with the menu. My windows cursor I can still move but what appears to be the game cursor is stuck in the top left corner. Needless to say, I can't click on anything because of this. I had the same trouble with the demo.

Any suggestions?

Re: Main menu freeze
I've read a couple of times that a firewall program might be the trouble. The problem is that Prey is attempting to access the internet and a firewall is waiting for you to authorize it. Because Prey is running fullscreen, you'll never notice it. Try running Prey in a window (you could manually change the base\preyconfig.cfg file --> change the "1" in the seta r_fullscreen line to "0") or allow/deny it beforehand in you firewall (to circumvent the authorize popup).

Re: Main menu freeze
Already done that I'm afraid, I was so sure that'd fix it but no luck.

Ok, well I guess it's time for the dxdiag results (Start -> Run... -> Type dxdiag --> Save All information). Try to post the first part in a reply to this thread.

Oh, and for more error info you could do the following:
  • Add set logfile 2 to your Prey shortcut (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Prey\prey.exe" +set logfile 2)
  • After running Prey a file qconsole.log should be in your base folder
  • Post (part of) that logfile here

And god only knows what part of the logfile you want but after having had a quick look at it would this be of any use?

Input Initialization -------
Initializing DirectInput...
iDirectInputCreate failed
keyboard: DirectInput has not been started

If thats of no use maybe you could be more specific?

Thank you for your help

Re: Main menu freeze
There seems to be a problem with DirectInput (read: mouse and keyboard support in games). You could try a couple of things:

(1) reinstall DirectX 9.0c (it should detect any problems and fix them)
(2) a forced reinstallation of DirectX 9.0c (only if 1. fails)

Quote:
A forced reinstallation of DirectX 9.0c can be done as follows:

Make a system restore points first, then get this DirectX Uninstaller tool >> http://www.superfoxs.com/
use it to get rid of directX and restart, run the installer and reinstall Directx.... restart again to check out the results now!

(got this information from this link, btw)
Oh, one very interesting thread discusses the same issue you have. Especially comment #8:
Quote:
...To those who can understand: This means that Q4 is dependant on DirectInput, and doesn't have the fallback support of q3...
All the Doom3-based games (-> Prey!) are dependant on DirectInput. So just make sure DirectInput is working!

Re: Main menu freeze
Well, after some lengthy and somewhat troublesome fiddling with DirectX Happy Uninstall I'm pleased to say it works, and if I posessed ovaries I'd have your babies.

Thank you for all your help!
