This is a bug in eDuke32 and IIRC, should be fixed in the next snapshot.

Are you running in classic 8-bit or 16/32-bit mode? I've had problems like that in 8-bit before.

Re: Eduke32 music problem???
8-bit, the 32-bit only has 2 sided sprites wich kinda sucks, but not in HRP so i like the 8-bit classic because classic gameplay is good

---------- Post added at 03:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:22 PM ----------

i set my computer to 16-bit and when i go to fullscreen mode it doesnt do the discoloration thing nor the lag!

I can show you how I have it set up. It might help.

Go to Setup.exe then,
Sound Setup
Chose Soundcard (I chose Soundblaster)
Address 220
Interrupt 5
8 bit DMA 1
16 bit DMA 5
Voices 8
Stereo
Mixing Rate 16KHz
Test Sound Card

Choose Music Card (I chose General Midi)
Midi Port 330
Test Music Card

1.5 but if setup.exe works for you eduke32 will use those settings.

Edit: I don't know for a fact if changing the settings in setup.exe will make any difference when using the eduke32 port. For all I know eduke32 may detect your soundcard automatically. After posting I went into setup.exe and selected no sound card. Then when I clicked on eduke32.exe the game started with sound and music working. Sorry.

This may help. You need to make sure your " SW synth" isn't muted or turnt down.
Some times when you play midis in WMP is mutes it so midi music doesnt work in duke.

Go to
Windows start menu / Control panel / sounds and audio devices / audio / midi music playback

Or whatever audio manager you use.

What I said was aimed at frankentruck1.

Your music already works, and the only way to fix the bug you have it to wait for the next eduke32.

Anyways I have XP and don't know where to look for SW synth on vista.

For frankentruck1 and Broly please post the "eduke32.log" as an attachment which can be found in your Eduke32 directory.

Re: Eduke32 music problem???
Well I tried the settings passed on to me yesterday, With no luck at all. Thanks for the input tho. Ive had other problems with xp itself because of my machine being a dual core, I hope that isn't the case with this.

I have to say sound or no it is an absolute thrill playing DN again! I cant thank you enough eduke!

As for atatching eduke32.log for THE COMMANDER, sorry i cant seem to find it. I have a _binds.cfg, A .cfg, and a .con, but no log that I an see. Maybye it didn't download and this is the problem. Or am I looking in the wrong spot?

Thanks for trying William gee, every thing is not muted.

Thanks again for the help people!

The eduke32 log file should be right next to the eduke32.exe icon. (To the right of it.) If you place your cursor over it it was say "Type Log File". (You may need to left click on it once.) If you right click on it and open with notepad you can check it out, then post it here. Also you can go into options, sounds and click on reset sound settings or something along those lines. Thats all I can think of trying right now.

Re: Eduke32 music problem???
ok, thanks to eddym4814 this should be the file that THE COMMANDER wanted:

Or not, The attachments screen keeps saying invalid file. I'm thinking that maybe it is corrupted, that it didn't download proper. Any one know if I can download just that file instead of the whole thing again?

Thanks again for the help

compress eduke32.log with winzip/winrar choosing zip file with maximum compression.

the board accepts zip files of size about 95kb max.

I hope this is what your looking for. I tried just renaming it .txt and the attach screen still wouldn't accept it so I tried to zip it, not sure if I did it right, never done it before. Thanks for being patient!

From your log:

Loading OpenAL32.DLL
Failed loading OpenAL driver.
Download OpenAL 1.1 or greater from http://www.openal.org/downloads.html

Download OpenAL from that site.

Re: Eduke32 music problem???
Yep they're on, 48000 hz and 16 bit are the settings. I'm going to try messing with these settings and see if it helps. Cant hurt.

Well i've messed around with all settings in game and in setup and still no voice or sound effects. Sadness. Oh well, off to play DN for a while . Any one have any other ideas let me know! thanks again.
