Graphic story hinder replayability?
Okay, I hear many folks saying they have replayed Max and MP2 a gazillion times. I made an attempt, but the "graphic novel" seems to just get in the way.

I already know the story. Listening to it again is just "blah-blah-blah". I think there should be an option/setting/hack that allows skipping the cutscenes after the game has been completed once (without having to continually hit escape).

Agree/Disagree? Do I care?

Great idea. I found it troublesome too on the replay, there are just so many quick cuts it really kills the flow, and having to fast forward is barely worth it sometimes as that can take just as long for certain cutscenes. If there was an option to skip the story I would use it.

Do you know that you can hit the use key to skip the scenes? At least, i'm pretty sure you can...(...?)

I was gonna say that too, probably in a smartass kind of manner...but then i remembered, you need the "use" key about 1,5 times in the game. So it's easy for ppl to forget that there is one.

btw. i'm playing the "late goodbye" mp3 in an allmost nonstop way now. Have yet to meet someone who doesn't like the song.

The CD is so mine, when i get my hands on it. I haven't had my hands on such a sad, beautifull song since i've heard "Mad World" from Donnie Darko. Yes, it's actually that good. Sorry to digress from the topic.

You can skip the cutscenes with the use key, and the graphic novels with the controls. Good enough for me.

Although I like the story so I don't mind listening to it again.

Re: Graphic story hinder replayability?
The cut scenes do hurt the game flow when you replay it. In the original payne, you only got a cut scene at the end and beginning of levels or when you initated them via telephones, tvs, and radios. Sometimes max would stop to say something but since it was done in game and occasionally you didn't even lose control of the character that isn't so bad.

The problem with Max Payne 2 is you're fighting along then you have to stop for exposition. And it happens so often just when you feel you've got started you have to stop and wait.

I liked it until the vocalist began singing.

Yeap. If you hit the stop button, you should be able to skip past it.

Not sure about the scripted cutscense though.

From the Readme:

How can I skip the cinematics?
You can skip the cinematics you've already seen by pressing space bar or the assigned use key. To avoid accidental skipping of cinematics, there is a 4 second delay where you can't skip the cinematic. However, pressing space twice quickly skips the cinematic instantly.
Just in case, ya know, people neglected to read it.

Yeah, but then it jumps to the load screen. Meh!

Aren't you in a big hurry to get right back into the action?

Re: Graphic story hinder replayability?
if youve not played the game before at all, watch all the cutscenes. even for the first 4 or 5 times you play it in detective mode. then once you play it in any other modes you should know how long each cutscene is and how long the load time for skipping them all is. then you decide which is shorter.

except for the second ending in DOA mode when you beat the game in it. i havent been able to have time to do any new modes except DMW and detective tho.
