Thatīs what I was afraid of. Since neither tpz nor Impact have provided mirrors so far, the traffic went completely via the primary download link. Since the bandwidth has been exceeded, I think the links will be down for about 10 days or so.

I only hope tpz/Impact got the files in the meantime.

Since the maphacks are small, I have provided a temporary mirror at uploadtemple.com on my site now. The readme file already says itīs v1.03. Thatīs because I have already included hacks for the recently-added shopping cart. Otherwise, itīs still v1.02.

To everyone who already got the Update Pack and the maphacks: PLEASE PROVIDE MIRRORS!

*EDIT*
In order to avoid version confusion, I have downgraded my mirror version of the maphacks to original v1.02, so the changes for the shopping cart have been removed again. Theyīll be back in the real v1.03 release, fitting to the next HRP Update Pack release v1.08.

Nothing dramatic, just trying to make the carts look placed more randomly. I could do nothing about the strange sprite sizes.

For the Update pack v1.08, you should number the maphacks the same: also v1.08. That way it's easier to see what belongs with what.

This model alignment problem only occurs if you use the new model defs made for recent releases of jfDuke3D/eDuke32 with older versions of the engines (or vice versa, i.e. old defs, new engine).
Newer releases (like eDuke32 v1.3.1) have the flipped sprites support, which made it necessary to realign certain HUD models - the trip bomb model or the devastator model had to be modified.

Try using latest eDuke32 release AND update pack content, it was done in order to fit together.
ok so I downloaded eduke 1.3.1 but do I overwrite the eduke that came with my hrp pack?(2005-11-05)

That makes sense only now since the changes mostly concern recently added models. Earlier on, I just reviewed existing stuff. So next release that goes with the Update Pack will have the same version number. In case I change anything that has to do with older models only, thereīll be subreleases (i.e. 1.08a, 1.08b and so on).

However, this does not change anything about the fact that I need the mirrors by tpz and Impact... right here, right now. Whatīs the holdup?

That sorting was not done by me. I would have added it in the signs folder, too. In fact, I probably could relocate it...

... On the other hand, Iīd rather not relocate them. If those tiles were moved, I would have to do so with any other screen tile, and there are a lot of them.

Relocating tiles is something for an official HRP release. I will remain collecting new stuff and fixing glitches, nothing else.

Not realy, just that it is hard to draw the line between what goes where. I put screens into the texture folder and judged the movie as a screen. The problem with moving it to the signs folder is, then should not the other animating babe screens be moved as well and if so should not those other animating screens be moved to and if so should not those nonanimated screens be moved and if so should textures that is more then a screen be moved and if so should textures that is the same as one with a screen but without one be moved to etc etc.

The line needs to be drawn somewhere and I chose to draw it between signs and posters on one side and animating screens on the other. No matter where you draw it there will be a fuzzy line I am afraid.

I don't think I will be splitting the stuff up anymore. Infact the whole idea of splitting it up didn't quiet give me the result I was hoping for. If I did it again I would probably split things up diferently with less groups and in a diferent manner but lets keep it the way it is right now. The important thing is that it all works and it is actualy possible to find the stuff.

BTW I definitely agree with Parkar, concerning reduction of file folders. For all I know, we just need folders for textures, props, HUD stuff, characters and menus.

More mirrors
Impact recently contacted me so that I can finally present 3 mirror links for either the Update Pack and the maphacks. I guess that should suffice for the time being.

I have also issued a small fix for skyboxes.def over at the HRP thread http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/sh...=0&fpart=11 regarding Earth/Moon skyboxes being at the wrong place in ep.2 levels.

BTW someone should finally modify the HUD shotgun so that the handgrip part with the nuke logo can finally be seen (and so that the weapon does no longer look like a stick with holes in it). Its texture should be darker, too.

BTW part II: Request to make this topic sticky. Of course, itīs not a must... but on the other hand, it could make some sense.

Mini Pack?
Impact and I have had thoughts about some kinda "secondary" update pack which you could download instead of the full release when a new one gets out. It would contain everything that has been added/changed since the last Update Pack while being much smaller in size.

So basically, you would not have to download the full HRP Update Pack with content you already have integrated any longer, just the new "mini pack" and bring your already modified HRP up-to-date. This would save us precious bandwidth and lots of your nerves when you download it.

Two questions remain:
1) Do you think thatīs a good idea? And:
2) What should the name of the new pack be (e.g. "HRP Up2Date Pack" or "HRP Update Pack Lite")?

Just a quick comparison: My current internal v1.08 version of the Update Pack is 33.8 MB, while the "upgrade/lite pack" would be 2.9 MB.
Of course, you need v1.07 for it, but you will have enough time to get it. Otherwise, you can still d/l full v1.08 when available. I think thatīs fair enough.

What would I have to do to fit them together? Because I'll tell ya, it will take me less time to download the entire pack, than unzipping v1.07, downloading the mini, unzipping the mini, dumping them in the same directory and rezipping everything, and if I have to start manually adding def-lines... And putting another /g switch is starting to become annoyingly long.

You donīt have to unzip anything you just have to download the 1.08 Upgrade-pack, open it and the duke3d_hrp.zip and put the files with drag & drop in the hrp-pack. Itīs the same procedure like to install the "normal" hrp-update pack but with less size.

No it isn't. I don't 'unzip' the hrp-update pack. I just dump the zip in the Duke directory and have added a /g switch to the duke shortcut. Like I said, adding even more /g starting to get annoying.

Update procedure
Itīs as simple as that: You have

- HRP (v2005-11-01)
- HRP Update Pack v1.07

What you (can) do to do it the safe way:

- Unzip HRP Update Pack to HDD, integrate it into HRP (you have probably already done that)
- Unzip HRP Update Lite v1.08 to HDD, integrate it into modified HRP

You then have the same version as someone who downloaded HRP Update Pack v1.08 full. There are *NO* additional parameters required whatsoever!

I can only repeat you can *STILL* just download the full version if you have the time, but it will not be necessary.

BTW I did not know that the Update Pack works as an override as well. You should know, however, that this file is compressed and might cause loading delays. I never meant it to be used like the way you do. Good to know this works as well, anyway.
I recommend you keep a backup copy of original HRP and modify the other one. That way, you donīt need additional parameters and itīs (almost) guaranteed to work.

I don't integrate anything, takes too much time. I just dump the update pack into the directory and add /g switch.

Well, you may do what you want with it, itīs written in GNU.txt. You should just know that I am using maximum zip compression on the update pack in order to minimize download size (it does not matter much though, compression is just about 96% or so).

In your case, itīs more sensible to get the full pack, of course.

If this really works, however, I should add that to the readme file info.

Of course it works. If you have the gorepack installed, you do have to make sure the update pack /g is BEFORE the gorepack /g switch. Or else the update non-gored stuff will overwrite the gorepack and that isn't pretty.

I've noticed something though: it the update pack signs.def file, around 4380s 4390s and 4400s, all have 4401.png mapped to it. 4401 is una-bomber wanted poster, which can't be popping up all over the place. There are no corresponding 4380s 4390s and 4400s highres tiles, so I don't even understand how they got there, let alone that they all got the unabomber mapped to it.

I think this is also in the normal HRP pack defs. Definitely something that needs to be removed.

Concerning the poster tile 4401: I think someone made just one of those posters (which are used in "Pigsty") and probably assumed itīd be better to have all posters replaced with the same high-res tile instead of having just one poster in high-res and the rest as normal versions.

However, the result is absolutely ridiculous (i.e. any poster shows the same person). If nobody objects, I will remove any defline that maps a poster to 4401 for the next Update Pack release (except for 4401 itself, of course). You can then at least see the original posters again, and texture artists know what they have to remake.

BTW the concerned tiles are 4381-4385, 4399 and 4409.

I think that should be pretty much a given, especially if JFDuke doesn't react well having a sprite redefined more than once (not sure what it does)

Wow. Looks awsome.

Some notes:

1) Probably a regional thing, but your start-quotes are on the bottom of the line, they should be on top like the end ones. (And for the curly-style quote, the curl should go in towards the words. ie: the one that is closing should be the opening, and the one that is opening should be closing (on the top of the line))

2) Typos:
"white-hat" --> "white-hot"
"coreening" --> "careening"
"No more freakin' aliens." <-- Period should be inside the quote mark
"...hull of his crusier," --> Change to a period
Extra quote mark in Duke's 2nd last line. (after the question mark)

I am sorry, but there are typos in your first 3 menu tiles as well. Especially the two wrong names MUST be corrected:

2504:
- Additional 3D Modeling -> Additional 3D Modelling
- 3D Realms Entertainments -> 3D Realms Entertainment

2505:
- Richord Gray -> Richard Gray
- Stephen Kornback -> Stephen Hornback
- 3D Modeling -> 3D Modelling

2506:
- THX-licensend -> THX-licensed
- Reciever -> Receiver

And while you are at it: Use better compression. 1.4 MB is very large for a single texture. I can do it as well if you canīt.

Even more 2504 issues
God damned... found even more typos in 2504 (and one more in 2505), hope you havenīt finished those ones yet!

2504:
- Allen "Done. Next?" H.Blum III -> add space between "H." and "Blum III"
- Tood [...] Replogle -> Todd Replogle
- Cuck [...] Jones -> Chuck Jones
- Couglas [...] R. Wood -> Douglas R. Wood
- Stephen "Chilling" Kornback -> Stephen "Chilling" Hornback
- James "Fish and Chips" Starey -> James "Fish and Chips" Storey
- Denniy DeSmeth -> Dennis DeSmeth

2505:
- Michael Hodwin -> Michael Hadwin

I must admit the original font makes differences between "H" and "K" as well as between "a" and "o" difficult to spot, but you should really look closer before you release something with developer names in it!

*EDIT*
I hope that was all. I really thought "Modeling" would be written with double-l, but if itīs correct otherwise, then leave it.
