Question wav and voc, which compression is excepted.
Does anyone remember what is/are valid compression for voc and wav files that the Apogee Sound Engine excepts? I have a gap in my notes where this info is suppose to be. Thank You.

I've always used that doc for the right values on the very few times I've added sounds.

Hmm, I remember talking to him about this, I think I told him high quality was possible, but the root of the problem was the wav compression. I checked my own doc out and it says to use "common compression."

So thats too vague, there where a few the engine accepted, or one I can't remember...any help?

Okay well, I figured I wasn't making much sense so I pulled out the old goldwave program(an old version) but it didn't help me out. Maybe it has to do with wav type?? Oh man this is bugging me...

I think there are a bunch of different wav types that work, as long as you aren't trying to use ADPCM.

I think an 8 or 16bit unsigned 22100khz PCM should work.

okay, I was looking at the sound recorder that windows has and the PCM format came about, and I did see ADPCM on there too.

I have Audiocity as well, but it gives no choice except the Microsoft wav format, which is the one I think TX is talking about.

Okay when I get time I'll try to test some of this out and see what happens. Thank you for the reply's old(young) timers.

You may want to add a note about OGG sounds now being available, in both the CON and DEF files.

Everything should work as long as it's mono from my experiences.

From my experience and testing, .VOC and .WAV sounds generally are very close in their kb size, while .OGG's are somewhat smaller. They all have different types of compression, though. I generally just keep the sound in their original format.
