The game will keep freezing at random points, the comp I have has the equipment to run Prey at an optimum level easily but the screen starts flashing purple before each level then it starts to freeze.

It sounds like it could be a heat problem, either the CPU or the video card could be overheating. You could try opening your case and/or pointing a desk fan at it.

I have exactly the same problem and its for sure not the heat... the whole system is watercooled (drives, GPU and CPU) and not overclocked. All other games (DOOM3, HL2 etc) work perfectly. Please advice for some other solution.

Can you provide the exact error message, including what module the crash is in?
