Getting sound clips from duke3D?
I was wondering if there was a way to rip some of the sound clips from the game? On the game disk, there is a folder with VOC files which appears to be all of the sounds and one-liners from the game. Anyone know a way to convert them to wav format, or simply a site where clips can be obtained?

PS.....I know a few clips are available in the goodies bundle on the disk, but I'm looking to get some of Duke's other classic one-liners.

Yes, the VOC files are all of the sounds from the game. You can probably batch convert them to WAV using something like dBpowerAMP.

I tried dBpowerAMP but it doesn't let me access the VOC files. When I go to open a file to convert, the VOC folder is empty as if that format isn't recognized by the program.

Try this in conjunction with dBpowerAMP.

Goldwave (has a batch processing as well).

Cool, thanks. Ok, I've been able to convert the files but when I play them I don't hear any sound.

Ugh, I just tried it myself and met the same results. Set dBpowerAMP's conversion settings to "bits as source", "freq as source", and "channels as source" and you should get a wav that actually plays.

No luck yet.

Oh ffs, I just tried it with a few files and while it sometimes works, it seems to be kind of intermittent. Try Goldwave as Jim suggested.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the problem is that many of the VOC files in Duke3D are sampled at 8000Hz (as opposed to more common sampling rates such as 11025Hz, 22050Hz and 44100Hz).
