It sounds like they use the base engine stuff as well, but they said "there's a lot of marketing there" so I think most of the "real" engine stuff is Irrational's.

idTech 5.
Or even idTech 4, with some improvements, of course.

I don't think It'll use anything but id engines, the developers are already used to it, and this time they could make a much better job, so, no point in a sudden change of engine.

Like, the one with Ethan Cole, Dr. Winston Cray, etc. I like it's engine, except it kinda overdid it with the HDR/Bloom, if it were to be used, It would have to be toned down.

But, if anything I would actually like ID Tech5.

I found the Quake engine 4 a little clunky.
Lighting was good, but I think allot of the Ragdoll features were rather buggy, some times, unnatural, although it could be bad skeletal animation and crappy computer, but I noticed in both Prey and Doom3, some times, an armor texture moves with some ones arm. For example, the texture literally S-T-E-A-C-H-S across from the body to an arm as some on lifts there arm.

With that said, I can come up with some good points for it.
Real time lighting was good...

What I would like to see in a new engine would be Soft body physics!
think for a moment, shooting your high powered gun, and it creates a hole right though the module! you can see though the other side of it, but its not like a peace nocked off of a Jigsaw puzzle.

Or if Tommy has a Tomahawk, his slash dose not just add a nice looking scar Decal, instead, it actuality makes a gouge into the model!

The stretching thing has nothing to do with the engine, it's a modeling/weighting/uv mapping issue and it'll look like that in any engine (and in offline renders). Physics-wise, the D3 engine can do anything other physics engine can do (as far as hard bodies), it's just slower at it (I'm not sure if it's because of optimization or if it's because of the high precision path system they use).

Bump...

I think Prey 2 should be available to OSx!
Thats the only reason I played Prey in the first place, and that was because Aspyar made a Mac Version.

What do you guys think?

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. We have no idea what the sequel will entail. My guess is it'll probably be NOTHING like the Sphere so perhaps we have need for something more suited for outdoor play?

Human Head had already started to work on Prey 2 before the first game was even released, so we're safe to assume they'll just improve what they already have (unless they pull a DNF on us and restart from scratch after 5 years of development).

Re: What engine do you think Prey 2 should use?
The Doom III engine is really excellent, and the Prey team is already expert in how to use it from their experience making Prey, so that's what they should use to make Prey II. And that's almost certainly what they are using.

Just use the latest version of the DOOM III engine, equal to or even more refined than the newest version used in the latest Quake IV patch, and Prey II will look fantastic! Remember, we've only seen the beginning of what the Doom III engine can do. There were limitations when Doom III came out (and when Prey was being designed) due to the PC hardware available at the time, and Doom III looks great. But now the guys making Prey II can really start to show what the Doom III engine can do. The unified lighting model of Doom III is tremendous, everything is dynamic, so you get highly realistic lighting and shadows, which makes the games that use it look really slick.

Has anyone considered Lithtech Jupiter EX? (Condemned: Bloodshot engine)
Personally, I think ID Tech 5 would be the safest bet, because of the momentum that Human Head has accumulated with ID tech.

iD Tech 5 ofcourse. Mainly because the team worked with Doom3 engine for the first game.

I'm voting for id tech 5 also. If Prey 2 will have outdoor spaces the engine can do that too.

Don't lie, I wan't to see benchmarks before I believe that. Just looking at the other benchmarks on net, running UT3 maxed on that system isn't just possible - so that is playable. Meaning average fps over 40.

Is Prey 2 going to be on any platforms? I played Prey on the 360 and enjoyed the game very much! Would hope to see it launch multi-platform!

The GPU and CPU I could believe, but the lack of Ram is a bit hard to swallow. UE3 surprisingly isn't as demanding as I thought it would be.

Hah! I forgot all about this thread.

I'd be interested to see what HH is using. Maybe we'll hear something about it this year.
