You can try a dos emulator that you can download from this site:

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

I don't own SW nor have I ever played it, but hopefully the above link will get you going. As far as playing over internet, I doubt SW supports tcp/ip stuff, it's probably designed for dial up stuff. If the source code is ever released, that can be improved on I'm sure..

DOSBox doesn't handle games that require more than like a 486 to run very well. You need a pretty high-end machine to just run games at the 486 level. I nearly had SW working with DOSBox but my 900mhz Athlon couldn't do anything for me, it was EXTREMELY slow.

You can run it - but will have to do so without sound.

No, SW is fine on XP with sound. You need to cli2nop the exe and use VDMSound, but after you do that your sound will be just about perfect. Using that in conjunction with Silverman's NOLFB (disables VESA linear framebuffers) you can play in hi-res VESA with great sound. It's almost like using DOS again, only you're not dealing with real mode drivers.

You can get the aforementioned apps and utils from here.

Yep, I've been posting this link for months and months now... and everyone seems to ignore it.

http://www.deathmask.net/buildxp/

This will work for almost any build based game, but he mainly has it set up for BLood, SW and Duke3d... he has links to all the dowloads required.
