Dopefish From the archives, look what I found!
Just took the attached picture today. I didn't think I had any of these left. However, I found two of them. I will be putting them up on Ebay shortly.

I'm curious to see what these would go for, as the last time I sold any on Ebay it was around 2000 or something like that.

http://www.3drealms.com/camera/112296.html

Actually, given the date of that link above, it may have been earlier than 2000.

I placed my bid... then got outbid... then rebid... back on top.
I will get outbid eventually... or will I?
... or maybe I just want other bidders to be comfortable I am out of the race... so I can SNIPE it for $100 in the last 5 seconds! (insert evil laugh with some lightening strikes)
May the least financially challenged win!

I really hate how eBay now hides the names in the bidders list... I always researched the bidding habits of the other bidders or backed out of a bid if it was someone I knew, or contacted other bidders who were also collectors to see if they wanted to swap, trade, sell, share history etc... eBay has really gotten greedy in my opinion.

Anyway... good look to all the bidders.

An unrelated question but I'm wondering - I notice you have no bad feedback, yet you have left bad feedback for other deadbeat sellers.. how do you avoid having them leave you bad feedback as revenge? They always do that with me so I'm blackmailed into never leaving bad feedback

I can certainly understand that. I think what Nukkus and I were pointing out is that Canada isn't overseas. You can ship with FedEx Ground and it will get exactly the same ride as if it was being shipped to Seattle. A shorter ride, actually, than if it gets shipped to Alaska or Hawaii, the latter of which actually is overseas! I don't ship overseas any more either, but I buy and ship to the U.S. all the time and I haven't had any problems. Just have to pay the damn Customs fees for bringing it across the border.

That shit irritates the hell out of me, and I think a lot of auctions I bid on are done that way...

I also can't figure out why people start bidding 4+ days before it ends, that just drives up the price...

Hey Superczar...
You are correct, some auctions are driven up that way but it isn't as common as you might think. Most would be awed by the software they use to detect patterns based on locations, IP, and other factors... they catch stop many of the organized groups or "pro's". It would be unlikely that "a lot" of auctions you bid on are done that way... unless you have ticked off someone and they are harassing you without the knowledge of the seller. That happened to me and for about two years I could only snipe or get my bids run up to pennies below my max bid. It is possible to get ANY bidders high bid, but it takes 15 minutes plus to locate and decrypt, so sniping is generally recommended to avoid foul play on eBay.

Your second statement... also correct, I bid 4+ days in advance to drive up the price. Hey... I am pro seller in some instances.

Seriously though, I never bid my full amount at first as it does encourage "dollar (at a time) bidders" to run the price up unnecessarily. I just do it sometimes to see who I am bidding against... but with the wonderful new (sarcasm) advent of eBay hiding the names in the bidders list such research is no longer possible or actually too difficult to be practical.

Good luck bidders!

I swoop in at the last minute 20s, bid my max amount and if I get it I get it - only ever lost 1 auction that way and in the end I still got that item from that seller anyway! And I am definitely NOT pro seller, I want it as cheap as I can get it.

I understand... a quick run through my history shows Buy It Now's or bids in the last 15 seconds only... the exception being this auction because I won't be at a computer when it closes...
I was a seller for years (on another account) and I used to REALLY like those "dollar bidder" types that have bid wars DAYS before an auctions close. As a seller, I want as much as I can get for my sale!

I hate auction snipers. I feel that if someone bids in the last ten minutes of an auction, it should be extended for five minutes. Yes, it causes the price to be higher, but it prevents someone from winning simply because someone else had to go to the bathroom with two minutes left and the high bid.

Yahoo Auctions apparently extends the auction when bidding occurs at the deadline. It's good for buyers because it prevents them being sniped (as long as they're at the computer), and good for sellers because it sometimes creates a prolonged bidding war at the end.

What if, for example, you have $700 and someone bids on this $600 mug for $8000 and you auto-bid $8001? Not a good system

IIRC you set your max price and eBay bids on your behalf up to that price. So if you have $700 max bid on an item that is at $600 and then someone bids $800 you're SOL.

I assume you guys that don't like being sniped at the last second, that it has happened to you. I can understand that, it's happened to me once or twice also, but that's how the game's played. I refuse to help drive up a price on something days before it ends, b/c that's bad for my wallet. There have been several auctions where I decided not to even try b/c people had driven up the price days beforehand to the point where it wasn't worth the amount it got driven to...

MrBlackCat (3D Realms Forums)

Forgot to comment on sniping... I love to get sniped because fair is fair and it reminds me to be rational and selective about what an item is worth to me. I have been to real auctions and they are just games to lure the unwise with emotionally based bids, in my opinion. eBay is actually like Silent auctions where you bid and you either win or you don't without any of that dollar bidding garbage. I don't "do" auctions for entertainment... I do them to try to obtain the item I am bidding on, but there are MILLIONS of people who bid on items for entertainment and it is like a sport or a contest for them. As a seller in the thousands I learned this. I do accept the concept, but it is kind of scary to me personally. It comes across to me as irrational or at best silly. Bid wars to me are not based in logic but emotion.
Example: I bid on a game once that had only bid... I was outbid at first... about $10. I had seconds left, so I bid again $20, then $40 then $60... then it ended and I still lost. Only two of us bid... I messaged the winner and got to know them... a collector I type with still, years later. He wanted the item for his collection and had dropped just a single bid of over $1000 on this game in the last minute. It sure made me think. This individual is very specific and selective and also knew the rarity of this game... and was right, the only one I have seen since, I got about three years ago.
Ok... enough rambling about eBay, I think the point is clear though.

Is any of you the current bidder on Cup #2? There's an ebay rating of zero on those, and I never like selling to people with ratings of zero. I've run into more problems with zero than I care to think of.
