Better quality e3 1998 trailer?
Hey guys, I've been messaging around to try and obtain a better quality copy of the e3 1998 trailer of DNF. So far I've either been ignored or told they don't have one. Actually, to be honest, I've mostly been ignored . Doesn't any of the 3DR guys or anyone else for that matter happen to have a better copy from the original source? Or just a better copy than the crappy camera-rip that's floating around online?
I love betas and lets face it, there is none as interesting as DNF that has gone through many gaming generations over its development. Unfortunately there really isn't any good footage from the original 1998-build of the game. Even the one e3 '98 video is crap quality and other than a couple of screenshots there really isn't much to go with. |

I have the video they released. It's a WMV, 320x240... but I get the feeling you're looking for something else. I also have the high quality Bink video of the 2001 trailer.

Re: Better quality e3 1998 trailer?
I don't think it was 3DR that released it, wasn't it one of the gaming sites that pretty much recorded the footage off-screen at e3? The video is pretty bad, and audio is horrible quality. I'm hoping to get the original source they showed at e3, I'm sure it must still exist somewhere. George Broussard probably still has a copy. If not, Joe Siegler might, he seems to be the kind of guy that thinks ahead with regards to these kinds of things...

Yeah, the video wasn't as good as we see these days, but remember, that was 8 years ago.

Re: Better quality e3 1998 trailer?
I don't have a problem with the resolution or audio codec used... it's a case of the video being a camera rip rather than the original footage they would have had on the e3 floor. You can see it, the colors are not crisp and the video is fuzzy, the brightness also varies during the video, and the sound is... well... crap. I'd be very surprised if this was the original footage they had at e3. I'm hoping there is a better copy around, like the original one they used at e3 rather than this video.
EDIT: If it isn't actually a camera rip, I would still say at best this is a VHS copy recorded from a high quality digital source, recaptured using crappy equipment.

Is this the bad one you mean? I don't remember ever seeing a version better than that, so if 3DR don't have anything better I guess you're gonna be outta luck.

Re: Better quality e3 1998 trailer?
Yup, that's the one... I'm sure a better version must exist. They wouldn't have used that copy to show off DNF at e3 '98... I'm hoping they can provide a better version... that copy kinda sucks and it's not just a resolution thing, the video itself is really bad quality. Probably a camera rip, or as I've said, digital->VHS->recapture (done badly).

That's 1998 alright, 11 years ago, that was computer video at the time, it was very good at the time actually, you've just been spoiled by high def. That isn't a camera RIP. It's computer video 11 years ago. What else would you expect? That was done two years after Duke Nukem 3D and Quake...

Dang, they should have stuck with the Q2 engine. Look how much progress they made in just 6 months.

Re: Better quality e3 1998 trailer?
Maybe 3DR still has the original video files somewhere, though with no Joe Siegler there they probably never could get it exported as HD.

I don't want to debate the current situation anymore, I'm just hoping everything works out for 3DRealms and we see this baby in the future sometime. I just watched some Jace Hall video of him playing the game on Youtube and it realllllly looks awesome. (I think it was from 2008, so it is fairly recent). Good luck 3DR.
