The cocooned babes
They say "kill me" (an Aliens reference obviously) and I'm wondering, do you guys usually kill them or not? Seems kind of messed up to leave them like that, and it's not like Duke can do much to save them, so I usually end their suffering with a load of buckshot.

I usually kill them, but never the strippers, karaoke chick, hooker, etc. If somebody did a CON/ART hack where you saved them by hitting space, I'd do that instead of killing them.

Ah yes, CON editing. I don't know much, but I did know how to do some of that. If you want to learn programming/scripting, that's got to be one of the easiest (and funnest) places to start. A friend and I learned how to mess around with the CON files back in the day from reading a few tutorials. I should give it a try again some time. It was almost as fun as playing Duke 3d itself.

Re: The cocooned babes
Simple. I play Duke Nukem 64 so I can "save" them rather than blowing them to pieces (it doesn't seem like Duke to go and do something like that). If there was any censorship in Duke Nukem 64 that was positive (well, for me anyways) from Duke Nukem 3D, it was that you didn't kill, but rather "saved" babes. I'm not against killing them or anything, it's just against my nature to go and kill innocent (and in this case enslaved) people, evenin video games, especially suffering naked women. I'd rather kickass like theres no tomorrow and save the world. Duke is violent by nature, which is obvious, and cool, but not in a "criminal" way. I'm sure even he feels that pang of hurt when killing the innocent.

I dunno about you guys but I didn't like how 3DRealms gave us the choice of leaving them in misery in thier cocoons, or ending thier pain in the most horrific death; being blown to oblivion by a shotgun (or whatever weapon you're using). I mean is there anybody who really enjoys killing them? Was it really so hard to just think up of saving them instead? It's sad really, and ofcourse I don't let it take away from the game, but it's pretty easy for me to see just why Duke Nukem 3D was so controversial back in the day.

Like you said, killing them bothers Duke. If you listen carefully, he will swear under his breath, "Damn it." Understandably. I don't like killing helpless women either but it's sure better then leaving them like that. They ask you to do it after all. I guess it's meant to serve as a further motive for Duke to kick some alien butt.

There's one more advantage of killing those innocent babes: they're setting up a monster spawner nerby and there are more things to kill. For example 1woman+2aliens=3morethingstokill

Re: The cocooned babes
Yeah, saving girls is so great idea! In my opinion it should work like this:
when you press space on girl the "Babe saved!" should appear on the screen and 20 health is added to player HP. The girl disappears with teleport effect and (for some girls) slime pod or slime pillar is leaved. May someone make a script to do this?

What's the rationale behind this? Some sort of single-use one-way subspace emergency teleporter? I mean like the Chaos Device in HeXen or the emergency transport "badge" in Star Trek : Nemesis. Of course Duke could use it to escape from dangers, but only a coward would want to leave when there's still some alien bastards to be wasted

As to the strippers, prostitutes, and so on: I always thought of them as being infected already since they're actually aliens by now; after all, would you stay working in a bar or on the street with an alien invasion in progress if you were still human? They must have been assimilated already.

I think it's some sort of "EDF remnant forces? I've the hostage so I'm sending you the coordinates to teleport her to safety. After that, I'll continue my mission as an ultimate ass kicker of all time!"

The cool thing about it is that you actually choose if you don't care what will happen to all those poor babes and kill them, increasing you body count (when some enemies are spawned after kill). Or you may play some hostage situation tactics and be rewarded with a health boost (for ex. try not to blow up all the babes in E3L1 slimeroom). Decisions, decisions...

As for hookers.. yes, I think they are already infected with some sort of virus..well that sort of thing sometimes may happen if you are nice to aliens...I mean - VERY NICE.

Probably that's why duke don't f**k them.

Well, it could just be that they were forced to do that or else they'd face death or cocoonment.

why are we discussing this?
Quote:
Lister: D'ya think Wilma's sexy?
Cat: Wilma Flintstone?
Lister: Maybe we've been alone in deep space too long, but every time I see that body, it drives me crazy. Is it me?
Cat: Well, I think in all probability, Wilma Flintstone is the most desirable woman that ever lived.
Lister: That's good. I thought I was going strange.
Cat: She's incredible!
Lister: What d'ya think of Betty?
Cat: Betty Rubble? Well, I would go with Betty... but I'd be thinking of Wilma.
Lister: This is crazy. Why are we talking about going to bed with Wilma Flintstone?
Cat: You're right. We're nuts. This is an insane conversation.
Lister: She'll never leave Fred, and we know it.
I love that quote. . .
If you want to save real women, do that. LIVE your fantasy, don't play it out on a computer. There is a whole world out there, with 3+ billion women, some of them actually looking for a guy to spend the rest of her life with, others to just have sex with some guy (if that is your thing). Try the real world for once fellas.

It's not really about saving women or anyone else in real life or otherwise. The topic was just about a particular aspect of this video game. I was curious as to whether most people shoot em' or leave em' and what the 3d Realms folks intended the player to do, if anything in particular.

EDIT: And yes, that was funny quote by the way.

I'm talking about my DNWMD mod. Send me a PM if you want to beta test the new version (it has its own thread).

The strange thing is, I still don't like killing them. But I think being able to rescue them is just to silly to put in the game.
