360 controller and Duke 3d atomic
Hello,

I cant get the 360 controller to work with Duke 3d. I have got a response on another computer but I cant on this computer. So my question is, can i get the 360 controller to work on Duke 3d? Is it worth going through the hassle of setting it up?

Thanks

Oh... I see in another thread that xpadder isn't working for you. Shame, as that was the only way I could play with the X360 controller properly.

Its easily done, i use a regular xbox pad [not 360] for all my PC games.
Get ControlMK http://www.redcl0ud.com/controlmk/index.html
Lets you map out the keyboard/mouse onto your gamepad.
Its not too hard to figure out, best to put duke setup in WASD and mouse
Goto dukes settings and set this as the controls
W move forward
S move back
A strafe left
D strafe right
And have the mouse used to aim
Then in ControlMK the left stick is usually the top X-,X+,Y-,Y+, youd set
X- VK_A
X+ VK_D
Y- VK_W
Y+ VK_S

And basically Up on left stick should be 'W' use like notepad to test pressing up on left stick should be like pressing W on keyboard, and would move duke forward ingame ...

Then for mouse there should be another set of X-,X+,Y-,Y+, theyll have different names though might be Z-,Z+ for some... if its X's and Y's its easy youd set
X- Mouse_Move_X_Neg
X+ Mouse_Move_X_Pos
Y- Mouse_Move_Y_Neg
Y+ Mouse_Move_Y_Pos
And right stick should be moving the mouse on screen, if up aint up or left aint left etc then mix them around till you get it right,

For D-Pad theres 'Hat Switch Up' 'Hat Switch Down' 'Hat Switch Left' 'Hat Switch Right' might be more for up-right but shouldnt set those.

For buttons set a random letter to each button and go in notepad and test each button and find out what is what,
EX:set button 1 as like 'X' and goto notepad find out which button types an X, Button one is 'A' for me if its A and space is to open doors/actiave you might want to put button one as Space so it would open doors/activate stuff etc...

I dunno how good it works with 360 gamepad but i heard the 360's Left/Right triggers are Z-axis's which might complicate things, shouldnt be too hard to figure out, hope this helps .

now that is an informative post.
Thanaks Xavier

hey Steve sorry that i didnt give xpadder a full go. i am just doing the rounds trying to get some games to work with the gamepad. i do prefer the mouse and keyboard but this is for kickback mode. if I can get Duke 3d to work good with with the pad then I might just have found the ultimate chill spot.

I know what you're saying in regards to kickback mode. I play Half Life 2 with my X360 controller when I just want it "relax" while playing it.

I probably will give xpadder another go soon. I have to get my tech dude to set up vista on a second hard drive soon and i was going to reformat at the same time so i will get him to set it up. It is important to me to get it perfect.

yeah for sure. eDuke32 rocks and has given duke a second life. I only just found out that I can record a level. Did 3dr fully thank the dudes who did eDuke32? They should of cuz i wouldnt play Duke today without it.

Well, if you're going to install Vista you're going to have sound problems with eDuke32.
