I'm betting that you're right, Markus, but I'm also guessing that Microsoft doesn't want to take the slightest chance of a curse word peeping out. You know how people can be with threats and lawsuits these days.

Im not mad at 3drealms they got the demo there on time. Im pissed at MS because we are all paying a monthly fee to get demos and game content but they keep messing up and failing on deadlines and they dont seem to care. They better get it together before PS3 comes out with free online gaming.

There's a difference between the demo, which can be downloaded by anyone and everyone for free, and the full version, which can only be purchased for $50-60 by an adult.

Re: DEMO UPDATE: 360 Demo
I'd be willing to bet MS will hold onto the game and release it on Tuesday like they usually release most things.

I still don't see why everyone is getting upset even if it is released on Tuesday that is still several weeks before the July 10th full version release date. Most game companies don't have the guts to give you a look before put it on the shelves. I know I've already pre-ordered my copy if for no other reason than to support companies like 3D-Realms for doing pre-release demos.

You have to remember Microsoft isn't a quick moving nimble company anymore (and hasn't been for years), they are a big goliath that is about as efficient as the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Its pretty funny how the PC version of the demo which is supposed to be the exactly the same as the Xbox 360 version was out first...ok the interface is a bit different being an Xbox 360 game and also that the 360 version is apparently locked at 30fps!!! What is all that about?!??!

Yet still no demo so played the pc version instead.

Prey Xbox 360
I am looking forward to this game but I am simply wondering if this game will run at a completely stable 30FPS? I know 3D Realms are perfectionists so I am feeling hopeful but the way it feels to me is that Venom whereas doing an excellent job, I feel that console gamers dont get the sort of treatment PC gamers get.

For Example Prey PC runs at 60FPS but X360 will probably run in 30FPS I know the Xbox 360 is capable of running it at 60FPS (Forza 2 is running at 720P at 60FPS) and that game looks like real life. It just feels that it's a case of, ah they are only console gamers. I wonder what would happen if Prey only ran at 30FPS on PC.

Keep the 360 demo, nothing special here.
So, I caved and played the PC version. I have a nice PC and it looks pretty good, so that certainly isn't the issue.

All the hype and praise for this game is so unjustified, it has the benefit of a slow summer and bored gamers. Release this game in November and it gets passed over.

There is nothing special here, it's simply Doom 3 on steroids (graphically, imaginatively) but about 20 times easier (you can't die???). I was expecting something really revolutionary, in the vein of FEAR, Far Cry, Halo, etc. What you get instead is a well done FPS, but not one worth dropping $60/$70 bucks on.

I hope the game sells well, cause the team obviously put a lot of time and effort into it. But still, I'll wager it gets 7's/8's from major media outlets.

Well that is your opinion, but I don't like seeing people say a game is basically crap or not special because HH and Venom put alot of time into this game. Thats your opinion I guess.

Halo was the first FPS really, excellently executed on a console. If it wasn't, you guys wouldn't have tried to approximate the controls almost exactly (as a team member states very clearly on this week's 1UP.com podcast....good interview btw, listen to it).

Oh, and don't give me Golden Eye as a rebuttal....seriously.

BADGER
Re: Keep the 360 demo, nothing special here.
I partially agree here. The game is very good; graphically it is state-of-the-art, well-optimized so it runs great, and as a shooter it is a lot of fun. I'm going through the demo a few times because I have a good time playing it.

My only opinion is that it doesn't push the bar as far as gameplay is concerned. The portals are fun, but gimmicky, and I don't feel that they add anything beyond graphical points. Especially the last room with the bar in the spaceship, and the room fills with portals leading to the same room. I didn't understand why the aliens would do that.

The game is filled with some nit-nacks like the arcade machines, but how come you can't interact with the insane prisoners? Can't your arm extend as if approaching a console and try shaking the person to sanity or alertness?

As for plot, the game seems to go very fast. Your grandfather says some warnings, you talk to your girlfriend, then you're abducted. I think a lot more tension could have been developed if you could try to run away outside, leave the bar and take to the streets, if only briefly. (I wasn't in the perfect gaming mode when I did the introduction, I'll replay it and maybe I'll change my mind).

I do hope you take these comments as criticisms and not flames against the game. Again, the game is a lot of fun, and after this post I will go to replay it. I am very interested to see how the story develops past the initial 5 levels. I don't want to be too harsh on the game until I see the entire thing. I only offer my initial opinion.

Yeah, but what does that have to do with being revolutionary? The controls were good, but that's because the controller itself was good -- it's just basic utilization of the console's provided controls. I imagine that Prey is using the same control scheme because everyone knows it by now and it has been proven to be an effective setup, not because Halo happened to use it.

Of course things stay civil here! People who just want to troll or flame others for their opinions really aren't welcome.

Anyways, I'd be damn surprised if Prey scored as low as a 7 in any review.

I really dont see why people thought FEAR had good gameplay, i kinda got bored of shooting the same 2 guys in black jumpsuits after a while.. And it seemed like the ghosts ran out of things to whisper at you after a while..

I'm really digging prey so far, it seems to have allot of style and is really original as alien abductions go.

The first real FPS was DOOM. From what I can really tell HALO was the start of RUN and GUN

Re: Keep the 360 demo, nothing special here.
FarCry wasnt revolution. It had great graphics, but the game was pretty boring, they had some 2 to 6 types of monsters, a standard-story, a very bad balancing, stupid savepoints, generic weapons and no outstanding missions.
The cool thing about FarCry was its graphics and the AI of the enemies, the rest was absolutely average.

I assume prey will be around 9/10 in reviews, and its deserved on all scales you could use for a FPS. I thought it was the most refreshing game since HL1.

Well I disagree, I thought the Prey demo was more impressive from start to finish than the whole of the games you mentioned (excluding FEAR). But hey, you have your reasons, so I respect that.

I don't think that any game can be described as 'revolutionary' on a gameplay sense alone. F.E.A.R. is the best FPS game I've played since the golden age of Duke3D, it had much more to offer in terms of gameplay imo. HL was supposed to be a revolution, and it was..however I feel it was more a revolution of modding and story sequences in FPS games than anything else. I won't mention HL2, because I hate it with a passion.
