FunG-Chi's Modem Player Addon (Tom Kerr)
Help, please!
I am working my way sorting a load of SW stuff downloaded ages ago and found the item mentioned in the title of this post. The text file is a bit vague, but it seems to be an SwGroup'd mini-TC or map-pack. I have been able to discard most of these because of the huge amount of work that ProAsm has done in converting the existing TCs to run with SWP or JFSW (thx dude ). But not, it seems, this one. Does anybody remember it? If so, what modes does it support? With a name like that, probably WB only, but who knows. Has anybody tried to make it work with modern source ports or is something totally wrong with it? For reference, I have placed a copy of it here (text file). I'd appreciate a heads-up about this one - assuming anybody's ever heard of it Also found another one like it - "Lo Wang Central Command" by Matthew Collver-Horvath. For reference, I have also placed a copy of that here (text file).

Reason: Discovered another one like it.

Re: FunG-Chi's Modem Player Addon (Tom Kerr)
Looks like it's a collection of popular DM maps, probably put together like that because you'd otherwise have to disconnect and re-dial to change to a different user map when playing via modem. The second thing looks like it's just a regular standalone user map.

Re: FunG-Chi's Modem Player Addon (Tom Kerr)
In the meantime, does anyone have a tutorial about Swgroup and its relations? I am a total n00b with this tool and have no idea how to extract the resources from these mods - the GRP files aren't even real GRP files, according to KExtract. I don't want to simply ask ProAsm to do this -- he/she/it/they must get fed up with being asked to convert every newly re-discovered TC or map pack -- but there is a lot to learn about these tools and SW that I just don't know yet and it'd be nice know where to begin before trying it myself.

Re: FunG-Chi's Modem Player Addon (Tom Kerr)
I have put back all the original SwGroup information and files on my site which includes the GRP extraction program SwGrpExt.com.
This is more for information purposes than anything else and has no bearing on any current JFSW development. The original SwGroup source code is also available for interested parties.

@ProAsm
Cheers! I'll take a look. Thanks again - your work is really appreciated! It's nice to see somebody supporting these old games. Sorry for the "he/she/it", but I don't know your real name, though I assume you're probably Ben Smit or one of those guys from way back By the way, may be it's just my system, but LostCity from the single-map addons locks up SWP 3.0 (from PlayWang option 1) on startup evey time. JFSW from the same package sometimes does lockup, sometimes doesn't. Perhaps there is something odd about this map that modern source ports don't "forgive", as with the now-infamous spritzoo.wad for DOOM. @TerminX - been meaning to say: LOL at the "Eddie goes to war" avatar; think it's a cool pic, though not a Maiden fan myself. |

Re: FunG-Chi's Modem Player Addon (Tom Kerr)
Martin Howe, correct on the name and yes there are several maps that cause major lockups on both Swp and JFSW.
Crates is another map that does this which is probably one of the best maps. Just switch graphics to ScreenBPP = 8 to get past these points, like you need to do in the camera ports.

Re: FunG-Chi's Modem Player Addon (Tom Kerr)
The map packs and many of the addons were made by me. ProASM did the large TC's while i made most of the mini TC's. With thanks to many forum members here i could put together the map packs too. Had to get that out before ProASM ran off with all the credit
I kinda did what you are doing now, going thru old downloads and sorting it all out. I also found that wangbang addon and i can tell you that all the levels that were included in it are included in either of the map packs. Hopefully ProASM has uploaded them again and you can leech them. They are about as complete as they could be i think but i would be very interested (as would everyone else) if you find more maps that aren't included. Please be aware that filenames may vary but the filesizes should remain constant. If a name is different but similar, check the sizes and maybe work out what you have that may be unique. Making those available to everyone else here would be great. Cheers.
