Max Payne 1 display error
Hi, first of sorry if this is in the wrong section or if the issue is posted before. couldn't find it anywhere else on the forum, so i figured this was the best place to give it a shot.
my problem: i've been running max payne (1) without any problem for quite some time. completed the first chapter without problems. (and some time ago completed the whole game without problems.) a couple of days ago, something weird happened when i tried to quicksave. the complete game hung up. all i could do was terminate the process. when i wanted to relaunch, i got the following error (after the intro movie): An error has occured in the graphics engine. Try to downgrade your screen mode and/or other settings by pressing the "Options..." button in Max Payne startup dialog. Max Payne requires a DirectX 8 compatible display adapter. Please consult the troubleshooting readme in the installation folder. Error: setFullscreen - creating the device failed: D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE now i tried to change the settings and so, but it didn't help. also, i can't come up with a logical sollution, becouse the game was running perfectly for one moment and than crashed the other, without any changes made to my system. i'm running max on an 1.3 GhZ, 512 mb memory and a GeForce 4 FX 128 mb videocard (yes it's an oldie, but it works fine for me ) reinstalling and patching didn't help. reinstalling directx didn't help. only thing that works is a reboot, that way the game works fine again, until at some random quicksave point (not necesary the first) the whole thing just hangs again. can anyone help me with this problem? it's becoming quite frustrating to reboot every so-often. moreover, it worked fine and it should work fine. so anyone who can give me a hint, thanks in advance! Re: Max Payne 1 display error
I think i figured it out. Reinstalling directx 8.1 seems to have solved the problem.
