Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown Thread
I'm a big fan of the Playstation version of Duke Nukem 3D which is essentially the exact same game as Duke Nukem 3D except some posters are changed to poke fun at pop culture. So you may be asking whats the big deal?

Well, along with the three episodes from Duke3D there is an additional episode called "Plug and Pray" which I think is one of the best episodes you can get for Duke Nukem. Unfortunately this episode is a PS exclusive. The episode though is really great (minus the first level) and has some of the best atmosphere you can get (Gates Motel) and secrets that are worth finding since they add extra little bits of level story. It really is a great episode everyone should try at least once.

In addition to that there are new enemies you can find in the new episode:

Pink Dress Pig
Its a Pig Cop but in a nice pink dress and he (or...she) is equipped with two pistols instead of the shotgun.

Zombie Pig Cop
Still dressed up in his police uniform the once deadly Pig Cop is just as deadly in death. Walking around in leg braces he fires at you from his two pistols.

Underwater Sentry Droid
Similar to the flying Sentry Droids in the way they behave except these ones are built for underwater use.

Ghost Assault Enforcer
Pretty much the exact same as the regular Assault Enforcer except that he is slightly see through.

Scuba Pig Cop
Carries a shotgun for a weapon and sports a Hawaiian shirt underneath his Kevlar and a scuba mask on his head.

Last but not least there is also a new boss at the end of the episode that I can't remember his name (something..gangsta-ish).

Bassicly...I love this episode.

Did TM have any kind of two player split-screen? Like Dukematch or co-op?

It did but not split screen. You had to have two of everything, etc. The multiplayer sucked ass as most of the levels weren't even multiplayer enabled.

Duke Nukem TM also had re-rendered enemies and weapons, and a few alternate sounds, not to mention the full quality soundtrack.

I love the soundtrack! The new duke speech was awesome, too. "Fire in the hole, ass hole"

I'd give my balls for a walkthrough of the first level.

Seriously, I'm desperate here. I forget where I got stuck at, I think it was the large underwater room full of octabrains.

I hated that level, really. Bad design. I managed to finished it but I didn't find any of the other levels fun after that so I gave up.

I can tell you how to beat it if I knew where you were. I think I can take a gander at where you are though. If its where I think it is you need to go underwater and go through a shaft or vent and you'll reach a small tube that goes down. Go all the way to the bottom and to your right will be a shaft leading to a small room with scuba gear and a button. Hit the button. Leave the room and go up a bit but not all the way and you'll see a shaft on the opposite side of the one you were just in with eggs. Get rid of the eggs and go in. You'll find a button and a vent. Hit the button and go through the vent. You'll reach a natural pond or lake. Its not really big. Somewhere underwater you will find a grate with a button behind it. Once again hit it and then head back to the original shaft you were in (the one that goes up and down) and go all the way to the bottom. A door will have opened beside the entrance where you hit the first button and picked up your scuba gear. Beyond this door is some eggs..and two keys.

I really really hope we can play this kick-ass episode one day in PC with high resolution. However what's the best emulator that doesn't screw the graphics, sounds, and doesn't freeze the game? Epsxe clearly have the diagonal object glitch.

I can't even get it to run with epsxe In fact, Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown is the only game I cannot get to run with an emulator. It's fine as I just use my very old PS

2 questions:

Who were the authors of the extra episode? AHB? Or other guys from the 3DR staff?

Then just an emulator question: Is Xebra compatible with the game?

Somebody really should somehow look at the CD and find away to extract the levels from that plug and prey episode, I tried but couldnt work out how to, Ive only been able to get the music and put that into my Duke3D PC game which is way better than that Music pack they released with the HRP.

Are they encrypted or something? I would have thought the game would still use pretty much the same file formats etc, just the application would be compiled for playstation, whatever that entails.

Well I just hooked up the playstation again and fired it up. Played through Hollywood Holocaust and Red Light District to get used to the awful controls... Lack of any strafe ability is a major con.

Also I laughed my ass off at the demo video, featuring the player desperately trying to score a hit on a pigcop from a distance while getting shot to bits by other enemies. He died about 15 to 20 seconds into the vid.

Thanks for the help by the way Nacho, I'll give it a try again later tonight.

Plug and Pray was a really enjoyable episode once you pass the first level, but I never hated it. Only the obscure and awkward controls made that level more difficult than it should have been. I tried playing it again quite some time ago with epsxe, it ran but there were a quite a lot of "Hall of Mirror" ceilings and floors about ruining it for me, at least I could make the controls easier to handle though.

There is a way to strafe but on the default control scheme I play on it is really awkward to strafe and shoot at the same time. I think its square plus the top trigger buttons L1 & R1 depending on where you want to strafe...or something equally annoying.

I don't think the levels would be in .map format or even in a format PC build could read.

Yeah, I had to look through all of it without the search function.

I think this is what I was thinking of.

Quote:
Opening some files in Wordpad, I found a reference to eXeY.map files.
And there are names from the 4 episodes, and a 5º (Butt Kicking Zone) with the level Quirk of Fate (I only played a long time in Link Cable Dukematch).

There are files from the 5 episodes *.map, but aren't in the Build code. REALLY BAD!
Interesting is that there are a e1l9 file in Episode 1 and 11 levels in Episode 5! =

The maps are in .map format on the CD, but the problem is (at least I think it is) that the textures are packed into each map file, so they're about 5 megs each. No any of the regular BUILD versions can open them up.

So if some one spent ages they could just extract all the data of just the map out with a hex editor? Would that work?

Yeah, someone could compare the file formats and see where the actual map data begins and ends, he could probably extract it out.

I just beat Total Meltdown about a day or two ago so my little break from it is Duke Nukem Advance. Plus the Walkthrough for DNA will only take me a day if I am not distracted while Total Meltdown will be much longer (A week for Version 1.0 if I get my stuff working properly). My guides tend to be very visual so they take a while to make.

Example from DNA guide:

Note: The guide is still being worked on so, not final.
