Older Games & Source Code
This is really a question for the 3DRealms guys.. Has anyone thought of releasing the source code to the old Apogee games?

Of course.

We've already started releasing source - ROTT & Duke3D. But we're not going to just go and release everything.

One of the reasons is that for the really old stuff, these things just don't exist anymore. We have some of that stuff, but not everything; been lost over time.

The games listed below are available as ASCII source code files for you to
study and learn from. Great for novice programmers trying to learn the
"tricks of the trade"! (I wish I would have had this offer when I started.)

Only the following games are available:

          þ Supernova (Turbo Pascal 3.0) -- 125

No, it's from a catalog textfile that came with one of the games. Before they had Catalog.exe.

Hey, why was Stargunner discontinued anyways?

How is it that twelve year old games still work on modern computers, but eight year old games don't? (Eight years! Has it been that long?)

It's for threads like that that I never purge this forum. I routinely get rid of older threads everywhere else on these forums, but not this one.

There's tons of good info on our old legacy titles that I don't want to lose by purging this forum.

At the moment, I can't remember why we never released a 1.0 of the game. I think it had something to do with the Skunny Kart thing, but I can't remember for sure right now.

Re: Older Games & Source Code
If there was to be a new Apogee/3dr source code to be released, IMHO it would have to not be an FPS.
And maybe not one of the more famous ones like Keen, something slightly less famous, but still good enough for people to want to do anything with them. (Realms of chaos? Or something along those lines)

Re: Older Games & Source Code
Howdy everybody,

first of all: I scanned the forums but i didn't find anything. So if this question was asked before: just forgive me and point me in the right direction ok ?

Question for me is: What about Terminal Velocity? Nearing his 10th birthday the question arise for me, if there is the slightest chance of a migration or even a pointrelease of that game? Not to mention to release the sourcecode for that beauty . My background is that I have restored myself an old DOS-Machine and right now I'm playing the old games. Finding my old CD-ROM from Terminal Velocity brought back many happy memories .

Waiting for an answer and playing meanwhile TV and SW.

Howdy,

hmm I have my doubts but nevertheless I wrote them an email. Lets see what they will answer.

BTW: Not necessary to give away the sourcecode. A point release for Windows/Linux would be good enought for me, because I still have the original cd-rom's But you are right: Just imagine what that would be: Modern grafics, networking ...... (just dreaming)

As soon as i get an answer from Terminal Reality I will post it here.

Howdy,

don't think so. Hellbender is running under W98. Terminal Velocity was a pure DOS game. BTW: Hellbender was published by Microsoft Game Studio aka 'Don't even think about making a pointrelease or more unlikely relase the source'

I will have to wait and see what 3DRealms or Terminal Reality comes with .....

i SAW the hellbender content running in what appeared to be a tweaked version of terminal velocity once. (no it was not on my computer no i do not have a copy)

if it can be done that way round its quite possible it can be done the other way round.

But Hellbender is a different game than TV and Fury3 was. Hellbender you also had to "do stuff" that you didn't have to do in the others.

the program it was running in was "apparently" some kind of editing tool but it 1: seemed to be based on terminal velocity (ie it was dos based and had terminal velocity startup messages) and 2: appeared to be playing the hellbender levels just like in the normal hellbender.

PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE!!!!

Release shadow warrior. I can't stand it anymore. It's just been way too long since I have played this game. I would still play it now if not for the lack of sound ( A HUGE PART OF THE GAME, Specialy his comments ).

I would so port this game in my free time to other devices (and yes i do know how to code).

Oh just a note joe, My BDAY is on march 9th. Any chance you can make it a great bday with sw src? *nudge* *nudge*
