Monster Bash Trainer Module
I'm looking for a file called Mb21rtrn.zip
I do have Mb21trn.zip, but I need Mb21rtrn.zip for the registered version.

With that file you can have God mode, warp levels and more in Monster Bash.

Don't search for the filenames, just search for "Monster Bash trainer." People often rename files when they upload them to FTP sites.

I still don't have what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for a program that will update the exe of Monster Bash registered version 2.1 so I can use god mode, warp mode, jump mode and more.

Nevermind,

I downloaded the shareware version of Monster Bash and I used the trainer so I could jump really high. It was cool. Now I could come to the secret place in level 2 high in the air.

I'm also after this registered trainer ;P it is the best out of all of them so long as you don't fly where your not meant to go... else you cause a out of memory error.

I wonder who made this trainer module, because I guess it's pretty hard to make one without the Monster Bash source code.

Alot of stuff is easily achieved with hex editing. Don't most trainers base on hex editing anyway?

Trainers usually work by locating the memory addresses which control certain aspects of the game and then fiddling with the values contained therein. It's the same concept as old stuff like the Game Genie and GameShark, and the same concept as REALLY old stuff like peek and poke on a C64.

imho, all it does is unlock the debugging features, maybe 3dreals has debugging enabled EXE file versions of this game?

In the old days that's the way most of these things worked. There was going to be a section in the Apogee FAQ about hex editing our games, but that craze died out not long after the idea was thought about, and you can see some of that in the FAQ, though.

Have you actually seen this Monster Bash Trainer Module in action?
This is the only trainer I've ever seen that displays windows with text in them inside the game in the same style as all the other windows and menus in the game.

Re: Monster Bash Trainer Module
exactly, there is a debugging mode built into this game and the trainer simply enables access to it.

the game it self supports the god mode function and flying, they are debugging features most likely for beta testers to use and the hotkeys etc. to access this debug mode most likely got stripped when the game was released to the public, however the debug mode remained coded into the game.

Re: Monster Bash Trainer Module
That's not entirely true, I guess.
There's also a trainer module for Bio Menace. But the result of that trainer module is different from the debug mode that is recently found in the freeware version of Bio Menace. Like, the jump cheat of this trainer module is not as irritating as the jump cheat from the freeware version. I guess the same holds for Monster Bash. There's also a trainer module for Duke Nukem II.

That trainer for Duke Nukem II modifies NUKEM2.EXE directly to the disk drive. Isn't that illegal?

Re: Monster Bash Trainer Module
It's only illegal if you distribute the modified version (which is why CKPatch is so popular for Keen mods, because you're not distributing any modified game files.)

Also, I can confirm from the hours I spent looking at Monster Bash in a disassembler that the trainer doesn't just enable hidden functionality, it adds entirely new code. The warp cheat is part of the original game which the trainer enables, but the ammo and jump cheats, and the associated popup boxes, are all custom code added by the trainer. If you don't believe me, search the .exe file for the word "Invincibility" (which appears in the I+F10 popup) before and after you apply the trainer

Re: Monster Bash Trainer Module
maybe invincibility is a master code that was removed from the game prior to release that enabled all the debug features? im just debunking your example :P

Re: Monster Bash Trainer Module
Well it's possible that they added back in some code that was removed, but in this particular case it's unlikely because there's not enough space in the existing code to insert all the code to display popups etc.

It's far more likely they added a block of custom code onto the end of the .exe, and then replaced some existing code with calls to the new code. This way they wouldn't have a limit as to how much new code they could include, and then it's quite straightforward to copy some existing code (like the M+F10 memory usage popup) and just change the message in the popup to something else (like "God mode on".)

If you want the functionality that might be easier then finding a lost file on the internet. All bash executables might be very similar and it might be possible to "transfer" the changes from the trainer to them.

Well, it depends. This isn't free open-source software, unlike Duke Nukem 3D (note: only the engine is free software, the artwork is protected by its own license, and that's why you buy the game in first place).

The shareware episode is quite different from the registered version. It might be a big search to find the relevant bytes. (not a 5 minute job)

Thanks I corrected it.
I can list all changes between the train and original version. But I'm not sure if that is allowed and not sure if it really serves a purpose. (as applying them without having the context is very errorprone)

hi guys this isnt 100% related to the OP, but im wondering what version this trainer is for, http://www.phreak.org/archives/The_H...3/lkc_ct91.zip

it contains a health cheat for monster bash 1, 2 and 3 but im not sure what version of the game is needed and/or if dosbox is stopping the CTRL+1 key combination from working.
