Keen MakeOver
Hey everyone,
I was basically posting this to get all of your opinions. For those of you who tried my Keen1 level editor a year or so ago (I know, it SUCKED), I was wondering if you would let me know what you would like to see in a later version. Currently, I've basically re-done it all. The following things have been added: -Scrolling WORKS (heh) -You can load levels (finally) -Sprites are SHOWN on the editing screen (both as boxes, or graphics) -Keen1 world map support -Keen2 support -Keen3 support Thanks to Flaose, we now have Keens2/3 support, and we are currently working on Keen2/3 world map support. I would love to hear what you guys want to see in the next version, as I am working on it very hard. |

Re: Keen MakeOver
A level editor for keen sounds pretty cool, but with a single player game like keen, for the levels to be any fun you'd have to make a set, like a mini-episode sort of thing... I mean think about making a single single player level for doom or quake or something else. Not many people would play it... but since level makers are always cool, how about being able to set map settings like... uh... I dunno, I haven't played keen1, 2, or3 in a long time... you know, like music in keen4,5,6 or the name of the level. BUt I dunno if there is those things in keens 1-3

Re: Keen MakeOver
Yeah, I hear you.
Its only ever good if the people make a full set of levels. It will be cool though, because with being able to edit the maps as well, it will create a completely different game. Especially in K3, where you'll be able to create a very non-linear game, as it has numerous teleporters Not to mention "Messie"! Although K1-3 doesnt have the same stuff as K4-6, you can edit simple stuff like the story, the intro screen, the title screen, the high score screen, the credit screen, and the story screen. |

Re: Keen MakeOver
Uhhh?
What is Moonstone? If it's an unoffical game, the no. It can only edit levels in the same format a Keen1,2,3.. |

Re: Keen MakeOver
The biggest problem from playing the level that were placed on Geoff's old site was that no matter how good the level editor is, levels are as good as their makers. Ppl just tried to haul EVERYTHING on the levels, or to make them too hard or too big, in Keen1, every level had an inner logic, there were easy early levels, linear and non linear, different environment, puzzle levels, lots of secrets. etc. This is the biggest part of my objection to the user-made and "unofficial" levels and games. They just don't rise to the level of the original games.

Again - it's not possible. The reason is that when id was working on the game, they also had to recompile the source code based on changes in the map data. Re: Keen MakeOver
This is a Keen 123 level editor...no more, no less, take it or leave it.
He's put a lot of work into it and all, so don't go askin for support of other games. Thanks. |

Re: Keen MakeOver
Then we need a Keen 3.5-6 level maker.
Making good levels in Doom even is difficult. Almost every single homemade Doom level is pure rubbish. No puzzles, just loads of enemies. ------------------ Crosma Software: http://www.crosma.co.uk Email: [email protected] ICQ: 40937169 Motörhead Music Videos Why do they not believe? Re: Keen MakeOver
Did someone actually take screenshots of all tiles in the games or did you manage to extract graphics from the EGA* files?

Wow... never thought I use this name again... I've been Volte-Face for a year.
anyway.. Hey Flaose: You didn't need to take screenshots! I just went and got every single keen 3 tile out of the EGALATCH.CK3 file using a prog that i downloaded and modified. |

Dude... where'd you get that program? Could it work for other Keen game's tiles, too?

Re: Keen MakeOver
On closer inspection I see that some of the tiles are a bit off palette (everything purple is blue). There's one to display the sprites and tiles for Keen 1, and one for Keen 3.
