A"...vacuum is a volume of space that is essentially empty of matter...", so how can space be "non-existence"? Are you suggesting that there is literally "non-existence" between our planet and the moon, for example? So how did the astronauts "exist" whilst on their way there?

Those astronauts exists while floating "in space" just as our earth exists while floating "in space".

Space is simply the lack of existence between things that exist.
