NEED HELP - windows vista/runtime error
OK, so I have an original copy of Max Payne that I want to install. I am, unfortunately, running windows vista on my laptop which is the where I want to install this game. However, when I try to run the game after the installation I getting an error:
"Runtime error Program: D:\Max Payne\MaxPayne.exe abnormal program termination" I have tried reinstalling, using the v1.05 patch, running it as administrator, and even tried removing the movies & replacing with a bunk file as one forum suggested. No luck. I used to play this game all the time & I think I remember patching it or something before, but I can't remember. Is this game really that out-dated that you can't play it anymore? I see fixes on here but none work for me. I think Remedy/3D Realms need to seriously update this game especially since the new movie is coming out. Can anyone help?

Re: windows vista/runtime error
Did you try running it in compatability mode?

Re: windows vista/runtime error
Neither 3DR nor Remedy own MP anymore, so I doubt they could issue a patch.
As you're using Vista, have you disabled User Account Control? If yes, try turning it back on, or try installing using the root administrator account. Turning off UAC can make some programs fail. What are you using for Data Execution Protection settings? I've read that users sometimes have to play around with DEP settings to get software to install or run properly. |
