Excessive Lag

Since XBOX Live came back up on Tuesday Dukematch has been unplayable for me. Any match I enter has so much lag it is impossible to play. I also notice trying to find a match will hang or take much longer than it used to to join a game. Last week when I first bought the game the online play seemed to work fine, because so many people are playing now is the system become overloaded and can't handle the great number of players? Is this a MS issue with their servers? I really love Duke 3D but having a good online match basically doesn't work anymore.

ive run into a couple matches that were laggy since the downtime but I also noticed the host (the person in slot 1 during pregame) has a crappy connection. My connection is always full green bars yet I've only hosted 1 dukematch game out of the substantial amount i've played.

It's to do with the host and their crappy connection. I had a lot of Dukematches last night and it was fine.

1.) Does everyone connect to the host of the game and not to a central MS Live server?

2.) If 1. is true, is their anyway to start a ranked game as a host and have people join as they select the ranked game option?

1) Yes

2) No - you do not have any control over that.

I'd say between 30-40% of games I've joined have had some lag or been excessively laggy, even though I have an excellent connection. Playing an old game online comes at a price, especially when there are no central servers.

But it's fun as hell!
