Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the map patching for? The README says, if you want to, extract the maps and use the script (caribpatch.bat), but doesn't say what the patches do nor why you might want to do it

Is this equivalent to maphacks (the only obvious thing I can think of), or is it for something else?

Maybe the patches work like maphacks or they fix bugs in these maps so that the Vaca HRP can be used on them without major glitches. ???

Either way I patched these maps and use them when I load the game, but I don't know what they fix. Also I cannot give you a link for them.

Yes. I use the map patching because there are things that cannot be altered with maphacks. However, I have encountered at least one bug in the process, where something gets altered that shouldn't. I'll iron it out.

Could this be used to fix various wrong textures in the normal game?
I recall reading earlier that they cannot be fixed.

Yes, it could in theory... but remember that I have about ¼ size of the main game for each addon. I would take a LOT of work to do the actual levels, and I would much rather see maphacks added for that sort of thing.
