Misprint in Guinness Book of World Records Gamers Edition

Personally, I'd like to see Valve finish up DNF, but that's just because I'm kind of a huge fan of theirs

So all along, Duke Nukem was actually Gordon Freeman, just with his vocals removed.

Makes sense, since both companies take a while to finish anything.

Of course. 3DR is the internet's punching bag. People just want to take shots without finding out what the truth is.

That appeared in a Guinness Book several years ago. Right now I forget how many, but something like 3-5 years ago I think. I pointed it out to the staff at the time.

Edit: Apparently the Guinness people havent' corrected their original mistake. The pic above might be new, but this isn't the first time they printed it incorrectly like that.

Surely the picture must be new, since according to the pic, it was in development for 11 years since 1998, which would lead up to 11 years later (2009). How could GWR not know 3D Realms was developing it if they had 11 years (or more) to find out??? Oh well.

That article makes me wonder if they accidentally listed Joe, George, etc. as members of Valve. I also wonder just what DNF would look like with Source!

Yeah, sorry Joe, but you fail as hard as that picture. It clearly states after new shots were shown in 2008. You said it's at least 3-5 years old, this is the 2009 edition. It's the first month of 2010, which would date this at probably 5-10 months old.

Not 3 to 5 years. But, way to pass those math classes.

I dunno, still waiting for episode 3 that was just "confirmed" to not release in 2010. It was supposed to be out before December '07. Announced back in '05, we are going the distance with this one.

My guess, vaporware..... Episode 3 doesn't release, and HL 3 is released in 2013.

Lets not forget TF 2 that took a million years to arrive, and when it did... was a slap in the face to people hoping for the original "vision."

L4D + 1 year L4D2.

The half life episodes were episode to be released within months of each other. If they can ship an entire product in one year, then wtf... right?

Something can appear in more than one edition of the book.

Those games at least came out eventually, besides Ep3 of course but it's still more likely to see that than DNF. Valve takes shitloads of time to make games (Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2, etc.), but they are totally worth the wait. Even their occasional quick cash-ins (Left 4 Dead 2) are decent. 3DR on the other hand proved they're making people wait A LOT (even more than Valve), but so far we've got no proof it's going to be worth because 3DR hasn't ever made a proper 3D game, no guarantees it'll be good.

Everything 3DR is involved with is good. They have had plenty of experience with producing 3D games. They were heavily involved with both MP and Prey and I would say they were a major reason those games turned out so good. George and Scott, which is basically who 3DR is, are very good with overseeing projects and that is what they were doing with the internal team as well.

3DR proved to be an amazing company, as you don't make Duke Nukem 3D "accidentally", nor invent the concept behind Prey without genius minds. My point is that pretty much every single game they worked on that came out since Duke Nukem 3D (Prey, Max Payne 1 + 2, DNMP, DN3D ports, etc.) were not entirely or not at all done by them, leaving 3DR to last finish a game alone in 1996, and as I pointed out in another thread some time ago 3DR has yet to finish a "real" 3D game without other companies doing most of the job. I am here, which means that I trust 3DR to come out with a good game once DNF finally hits the shelves, but comparing 3DR to Valve is not a good idea, considering they've released plenty of games since DN3D, many of them developed 100% internally even. And tastes vary, but all of them had extremely positive receptions overall. I'll keep waiting for DNF, but until then it's just broken promises and failed deadlines.
