The Mystery of Isis II
Hello. I'm sorta new here, some of you may know me as eK from the other big keen board. Anyway, I was reading through some of the topics here and it seems as though no one here knows about The Mystery of Isis II.
Isis II is a 3rd-party keen game, and at the other keen board it's one of, if not THE most popular 3rd-party game. The most recent demo has 2 levels that are reminicent of Keen 4. That demo is about 4 months old or so and a lot has improved since then. Another demo should be out by Christmas (at the latest) and I'm sure everyone here will be suprised by it's quality. you can visit our homepage at: http://members.aol.com/~dml1001 So go take a look - and if you know of a better 3rd-party keen game tell me about it, I'd like to play it! |

Re: The Mystery of Isis II
My game is better, eK! Heh... okay, no it isn't, and are you forgetting about Real Keen Player? I think that one's gonna be pretty cool... oh well, I don't wanna start an argument on this board... heh.

Re: The Mystery of Isis II
It's funny, on the other board Isis is huge, but here people barely pay attention to it. Must be that all the 3rd-party keen games they've played suck (or most anyway) ... Well I'm sure no one here will be dissappointed in Isis - there's only two weapons, 1 enemy, and 2 levels in it, but it IS cool for a first demo.
BTW - someone mentioned the idea of a harpoon being in keen. I was the one who came up with that for Isis about a year ago, and it's in this demo - so gosh darnit! GO LOOK AT IT!!! ![]() |

Re: The Mystery of Isis II
I have played both demos and I have got to admit, this game is the best 3rd-party game ever. I just have two suggestions:
1) In the new demo, there is fruit. I think Commander Keen would perfer candy over fruit. Candy is just more Commander Keen like. 2) Also in the new game, the music is too dark and gloomy. In the original Keen the music is bouncy and happy. I think you should change this. Well thats it. These are just suggestions, remember. Keep up the good work! |

Re: The Mystery of Isis II
They released it like that before I had the candy finished. The fruit is now health items and we have all new junk food for keen.
The music isn't up to me, some of it will be happy and bouncy, but some will be creepy too. We're moving a bit away from the ultra happiness of keen. Not a lot, but some. Keen's a year older now, and his latest threat is a bit more diabolical than Morty - though less insane. |

Re: The Mystery of Isis II
First I have to say that I've yet to see a "3rd party" Kenn game that was worth it's download, they all are just a bunch of boring hapers that give the originals a bad name. second, your usage of terms is ridiculous, 3rd party? like Id liscenced the game to you or something? try fan-made games, that would give ppl a more accurate idea of what were talking about. Second, I played your demo, after a friend forced me to, and I have to say it plays terribly. the old Keen 1 engine felt better.
I also have problems with all the fan made game plots, the only thing good about them is that really give us a sense of how great Hall is.
quote:
on the other board Isis is huge, but here people barely pay attention to it.

That's cause the Keen board is a closed hive who is interested in itself, that's the main reason I left a year ago, those ppl think the world revolves arounf them. Basically, nobody really cares. ------------------ "It wasn't supposed to turn out like this.." Re: The Mystery of Isis II
Geez - well that was the first demo of our game, just to show off the engine and such. Of course it'll have problems, it's like releasing a beta. The final game will be awesome with a great storyline. But I know just saying that won't convince you...
Just one more thing - Your being more critical about our game than Tom Hall was when he played the very first version of our game that barely had anything in it other than keen, his weapons from the original games, and a level with art from other games. He said he liked seeing keen again, and he was looking forward to playing the finished product. Finally - What made it handle so terribly other than the pogosticks better manueverability? |
