Insane lag
I've started up Mapster32 again today for the first time in months - But it seems like now it will barely run. Soon as I go into 3D mode it lags enormously.. Didn't have this problem some months ago. Any thoughts?

My first thought is you didn't tell us whether you are using a new version of mapster or whether it is the same version you were using months ago.

Are thousands of sprites in view or something?

No - Any map will lag in 3D-mode, wether I'm just looking at a wall or an open field full of sprites.

I have found that the fps suffers greatly if you run in hi color. Try 8 bit color.

That sounds pretty inaccurate. Hardware acceleration ("hi color") will run much, much faster than software mode unless you don't have hardware acceleration or you've managed to somehow misconfigure things (which there isn't much of a way to do). Really, by that logic you must also have to run the game in 8 bit classic mode since "the fps suffers greatly" otherwise.

Hmmm...I made that statement based on some maps that were chock full of models. Not surprisingly, it runs smoother if sprites are being displayed instead of models because it's in classic mode.

Ah, yeah, that would certainly explain it. You could also use "usemodels 0" in the console to disable 'em.

Sang, defrag your disk, run a scan for viruses, free some space in the HD and allow the cache to be stored again. Try that and tell us.

Re: Insane lag
I tried to solve the issue today - I freed up a shitload of space (10GB if not more) and now it runs fine in 8bit mode, still no luck in 32bit. Because I'm using a lot of models and hi-res textures, running it in 8bit is not really the solution I'd prefer.

You have brought that video card you were talking about getting right? If not I surjest you do and get some RAM while your at it. That will help majorly.

Re: Insane lag
A few months ago Mapster and all that worked fine, today I have the same specs and it doesn't work anymore - So no, it's not about the video card or RAM.

Oh and concerning your question about the new card - No, the thing costs like 600 bucks, I don't have an infinite amount of cash you know

Re: Insane lag
Well, starting up HL2 prompted me to update my drivers if I wanted to so I did.. Afterwards I thought "hey, maybe this fixed my Mapster issue" - and it did! I should slap myself in the head for not thinking about this sooner.

Ggggrrr even I thought someone like you would know updating drivers is the first thing to always do...

Any way, How does HL2 run on your comp? Do you have CS as well?

HL2 runs fine on mine but CS seems to run rather slow if I put more than 15 bots in...

I can run most detail settings on high and filtering on Trilinear, but I have to turn off AA and stick to simple reflections.
