Cool Interesting thing I noticed on frontline studios...
http://frontstudios.com/index.php?a=games

Check out the way they describe DUke Forever...

"Critical Mass is the first in a planned three game trilogy, none of which have any relation to the console reboot, Duke Nukem Forever."

So DNF was apparently going to be a reboot eh? I just find that interesting. What do you guys make of that? Based on what we were shown and what the leaked story indicated it was not a reboot, but a sequel.

Well, nothing groundbreaking here.

A sequel of any game that came a decade and a half ago should be considered a reboot. It's not like they made anything in between (speaking about 3dRealms, that's it).

Anyways, the PSP game looks hot.

I think this is what Joe was referring to, that it's a CONSOLE reboot. DNF is not a console game, it's a PC game. If it would have been ported to the xbox or something would have meant additional sales, but DNF was in NO way a CONSOLE reboot. If it was a reboot of anything, it would have been a PC reboot. Considering it (from what we have seen in pics/trailers/leaked stuff) is not a reboot, but a continuation of the Duke games makes the term "reboot" null and void. Now I am a fan or I wouldn't be here at 3DR, but come on people, it seems if a site posted "DNF wipes his butt at PC users and was only going to be released for the PS3", y'all would be all over it spouting "NEW NEWS!! THIS IS THE TRUTH!!! THIS IS WHY (insert someone from 3DR's name here) WOULDN'T TALK TO US!". The Previous sentence is why 3DR people wouldn't talk to us, things here get blown out of proportion waaaaay to quick. Was this an interesting thing you noticed on frontline studios? If you are trying to point out how stupid and ignorant they are and how they shouldn't be used as media to read if they can't get their facts strait, then yeah, interesting. Stupid, but interesting. If you meant ANYTHING ELSE, then it's not interesting. It's just f-n stupid.

It has nothing to do with going "THIS IS WHY!!! ONEONEONEONI!HELEVEN!!" Or anything like that. It has to do with an ODDITY I didnt notice the first time I read that page, and the ONLY REASON people have ANY DOUBT OR QUESTION about the events that lead up to this situation at 3D Realms is because 3D Realms STOPPED TALKING ALL TOGETHER FOR NEARLY EIGHT YEARS. In other words. Their blackout started when I was 13 years old, and their "demise" occured when I was 21. Thats more than enough time for it to be reasonable that people begin to get imaginative with what might have happened, yes?

Why does this kind of thing even have to come up when someone sees something and wants to bring it up for conversation? I'm not trying to stir up anything, I just thought it was a good thread starter.

Its interesting that in essence the press release for Critical Mass refers to DNF as a CONSOLE REBOOT. I found that interesting in a "I wonder if thats a slip of the tongue or slip of information." Kind of thing, and dont tell me that ISNT possible, because it very well might be possible. We dont know, we have no way of knowing what deals could have been made. I just saw it and thought it was ODD. Nothing more. I wasnt reading anything into it, I had no major opinion. Nobody else had commented on it, and I thought it wouldnt hurt anything to do so.

Think about it, it is POSSIBLE (not nessacarily LIKELY) but possible that Take 2 may have wanted some kind of an exclusive deal where DNF was released for XBOX 360 "exclusively" initially, and then later released for PC. This, again, is what I mean interesting. It was something to have a CONVERSATION about. Not a flame war, not a earth shattering revalation. Just something to discuss. Hell, not even that, just the quote itself really.

That's not a reason, that's an excuse.

If you really think that the DNF of recent years was ever going to be a PC game 'ported' to the Xbox360 and other console platforms, then you are naive beyond belief.

Isn't frontlinestudios an official partner of 3d realms?
Aren't their games under the supervision of3d realms as the IP holder?
The next duke game that will be released (hopefully ) is theirs.

That's one reason that they shouldn't post things like that, and that's why Commando nukem is right to make a post about it.

Except if this has something to do with the legal dispute with Take Two ( they alleged they had the right to create a console DNF)

It was going to be a PC game originally and have a console counterpart, much like Prey and Max Payne were.

I know, I wish people would stop making threads with insights about a game that won't be released. If there is news that development has started again, I wouldn't mind it so much, but this is just getting ridiculous. When people speculate this gets edited. I don't want to change the release date to "When it's done" anymore.

Anybody that believes that is stupid IMO. Something will come out with the DNF name on it. There is way too much potential from a money making standpoint. Whether it is the current iteration or not and who actually develops\publishes it remains to be seen, but if the project could get out of development hell and get a strong team behind it, the game would be a gold mine.

Anyone see the vandalism on Wikipedia yesterday? Apparently Scott Miller stated on Oct 15th that DNF would be released on Dec 31st, 2009!

I has been like that for a while... It keeps getting changed to Dec 31st, 2009. I posted a link to that and pointed that out in my last post.

Until recently, I was the one changing it back. I just hope that page gets locked so people can't keep doing that.

Wow its amazing how many people missed the obvious fact that they were just refering to DNF as a game in general. Who cares if they said "console reboot". It was obvious that the writers didnt do any research before writing the article or they would have specificaly refered to it as a PC title.

If it ever gets released, it will probably get ported to consoles anyway.

Take Two was offering 3DR to co-develope the Xbox version , this was just a trap , to make them even more busy thus not finishing the true Duke Nukem PC game. I think this was all the take two strategy not to fund the game from the beginning. The stupid versions that 2K was doing plus this Xbox ver was just all a louring obstructions that made it even more harder to focus on Duke Nukem Forever.

Making an Xbox version maybe cost 3DR that very time they would hopefully could finish DNF on time. As Take Two was funding Xbox ver but not the actual DNF.

Not to mention some other unannounced game. 3DR should focus only on DNF as all Take Two did offered and asked and did was all in the way of a strategy forcing and making Take Two to fill a lawsuit against 3DR , plus obtaining Duke Nukem franchise on a fire sale.

I don't know what the hell court needs so long , but the truth will be out , sooner than later. But Duke Nukem is , on hold , or , is 3DR with 3 developers left , continuing to finish DNF, I got to say that's most likely the case. They won't stop crunching until it's done.

Trap my ass. Take-Two could have easily hired any other team to do the port. But considering George's love of 360, it's only natural that 3dr decided to develop this version themselves. Especially since many developers say it's really easy to port from PC to 360. To the point that Valve don't even bother to do PS3 versions letting EA do the "hard" work.

Take Two never funded the game except in 2008(?) for Duke Begins and 360's version. It was 3DR's strategy to never get funding for their games since it means losing some independence and royalties.

Quote:

Yeah. After all those 12 years 3DR just couldn't have enough time to finish it.

Quote:

DNF was self-funded. Even before Take-Two.

Take-Two forced 3DR to develop another game so they could sue since their crystal ball showed that layoffs would occur in May'09?
