Prey Windows Dedicated Server Files Available
A couple of days ago, we released the Prey dedicated server binaries for Linux. At that time, we said that the Windows ones were still being worked on. We're here now to tell you that they've been completed, and are being released now.

Available on our Prey downloads page, the Windows server files are ready for downlod for free right now. There is a readme available online which you can check out before downloading. That file is available here.

The file is about 1.5Mb in size, and is a zip archive. You will need some files from your original Prey registered CD (or DVD). Details as to what you will need are in the readme file.

Officially, these files are unsupported. They have been tested, and do work, but if you run into problems getting them to run, our official support channels cannot help you. Having said all that, we're aware that folks have been clamoring for the files, so go download today!

Prolly because the dedicated server assumes that the person installing the game has a pretty good grasp of how to install and configure the game.... The configuration is very broad and flexible, but of course that means complex, so to answer every question about how to change the frag limit, or "what is wordpad?" They chose to leave the dedicated servers to those who can get it to run without costing them support (believe me, support is very expensive)

Although there would more then likely be an official response to 6 different admins saying "server crashes after 20 minutes when Tommy shoots into the corner of a certain wall", by stating that the server binaries are unsupported, they are not legally bound to provide support for the guy who wants to set up a server, but is too lazy to go online and read the Howtos (the server behaves EXACTLY the same way as doom3 and quake 4) or hasn't figured out what cmd means. Its expensive enough helping non-computer people do gui-based things much less editing scripts and such.

Not to worry, if there are big problems, I'm sure they'll still fix them.. This is a quality product so far, and thus far my experiences have been fairly good, and the bugs were well understood by the time I needed to figure them out.

yes, they usually fix the problems. but some companies don't support the files and then ignore problems by saying, "oh, we don't support those."

I donno these guys have already tried to help me with my unsuppotted configuration (prey on cedega) so I think it'll be fine... The community will support what these guys won't, and if its a real problem, I'm sure they'll fix it.

Besides, "unsupported" is just a legalese term for "you can't sue me for using these".

Has nothing to do with being sued. Your longer post further up was more accurate.
