Who remembers back when Keen Game Boy was a rumor, and we first found real hope in it because it was up for pre-ordering on Chipsbits.com? Well, I was on there today and was going to buy it (but then went to amazon.com because it was cheaper), and guess what I found? A game called "Keen Chronicles?" What could it be? It is due for release in 3/02, which would be this month. I'm guessing that the date is wrong, but more importantly, could this be the new Keen? I will e-mail them and see if they know. Monkeystones has been hinting at it, so maybe it is finally coming. But do not hold your breath. And if you do, don't hold it for more than two minutes or you will risk passing out.
Oh my giddy aunt!

Interesting... Does Chips and Bits say who was making it? And it's for the PC I take it? Anyway, It would be pretty cool if it was an actual NEW Keen game by MonkeyStone. Just have to wait and see I guess. I've heard nothing of it though, but hopefully It'll be Keen.

----edit----
Actually, I just checked Chips and Bits out. It calls the title "Keen Chronicles CD", so I assume it's for the PC. The genre is "Adventure", and it's about $29.95

Tantalising, isn't it?

According to Softek International's (the publisher, according to the amazon page) web site, they have "a direct relationship" with, among others, MonkeyStone...

Apparently the PocketPC version of Keen Chronicles is due to be released on 1st April, and the PC (Windows) version on the 15th...

I like the fact that Monkey Stone and id Software are partners, it serves as the best piece of evidence that there’s going to be a new Keen game; but there is little certainty.

I really, REALLY doubt this is a new Keen game, but we can always hope. When I was an annoying kid, I always bitched and moaned on the AOL Apogee forums, along with others, about the prospect of a new Keen game. Ahhh... the good old days.

Re: Keen Chronicles?
If its not a new Keen game, the only thing it could be without being copyright infringement/trademark inf. is a repackaging of all of the games to date (maybe excluding Dreams, as SoftDisk owns the rights to that one, I believe) but then it wouldn't be the complete story. . . unless they've just kept the same games and made different level sets for them, sorta like Mario1's transition to the GB- same game, only longer and with totally different levels. Or, its the COMPLETE series, like with an add on at the end. . .

I can't see this being anything but a collection of all the PC Commander Keen games, hopefully with Keen 6 EGA this time. Whether or not Keen Dreams is included depends on what happens with Softdisk.

Re: Keen Chronicles?
The "id Anthology" had Keen Dreams, so I’d expect this will too. The best prospect about this game is that there will be improved graphics, and that they wouldn’t bother releasing it unless they planed on doing more.

I can't believe that Softdisk is still around after all these years.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I have a legal copy of Keen 6 as well. I remember when I got that game in the mail, I actually beat the same day, in only three or four hours. I was a hardcore gammer back then.

Anyway, don't trust Chips & Bits for advance info. These guys have had DNF for pre-order (coming out in a couple of months) since 1997.

Re: Keen Chronicles?
I e-mailed Tom Hall and got this response-

"It was a retro-project that was talked about. It is not currently being worked on, and there are no plans to work on it in the future.

Believe me, when there is an official new Keen game, I’ll be shouting it from the mountaintops.

Take care,

Tom"

And sometimes (especially for us Keen fans who have lived in desperate wait through rumour after rumour for all these years) hope is enough.
