Triad With the source code out, is it theoretically possible to...
...add new weapons/enemies/traps/characteristics/map specs?

It's possible, but what your talking about would be a *LOT* of work,
everything in the game would need a re-write at some level, you would
need new graphics & animation sequences, new code, new sounds, etc, etc.
For the best chance of success, you would probably need to assemble
a team of people for a project like this..

I've always had that in mind. I'm just not sure if there enough talented ROTT anoraks who would be willing to do it. There's you, birger, tommy, myself, and possibly a few others. Maybe Joe Siegler and/or Tom Hall could even be an adviser. Maybe one of these days...

Somewhere in the (not too distant) future, would you be willing to work on something like that? Or would it require hiring outsiders?

That's what I was thinking. First release an innovative level pack to show what is capable, then see if there's further interest. Theoretically, a FinalROTT could be done by just one person with enough free time and effort - a redesign with new weapons and enemies would require a large team effort.

It would be a lot of work for a free project.

True. But there's one thing I've noticed with Apogee games. They tend to develop small yet extreme cult followings.

Take Jumpman Lives! The cult of Jumpman Lives! is probably no larger than 20-30 people, yet there is an entire network dedicated to everything Jumpman, incuding level design contests - and people still make levels to this day. One Jumpman Lives! fanatic made 180 levels (including complex animations), and most of them were better than the ones designed by Dave Sharpless and Scott Miller.

It would be a lot of work, but the various Apogee cults are capable of anything given the right motivation. Hell, eight years later, and I'm still entertaining the idea of singlehandedly making a level pack that would blow away even Extreme ROTT.

tommy I promise once I get my PC in order I will review your ROTT level, definitely send it again.

Also, I'd be willing to help with a complete makeover only after I finish Final ROTT.
